I help individuals with disabilities and their families gain greater accessibility, equity, and inclusion in schools and readiness for workplaces through specialized coaching, consulting, and advocacy services.
Last week, my resilience was tested and I got a harsh dose of “practice what you preach”. Here’s what I mean… Hosting a LinkedIn Audio Event has beent on my “to-do” list for months. Anything I endeavor to do, I do so strategically and ensure I have a plan and prepare well in advance. To prepare for hosting my own LinkedIn Audio Event, I: ✅ Attended numerous audio events hosted by others months in advance ✅ Participated in LinkedIn Audio courses ✅ Met with individuals who regularly host audio events to gain insights ✅ Created a timeline for launching my course and landing page and chose a date for my audio event ✅ Promoted the event across platforms ✅ Invited individuals in and outside my network to attend I was so excited for the event and looked forward to sharing my BIG NEWS! When the day and time came, I opened the Audio Room and… NO ONE attended. Not a single soul. Crickets. After sitting and waiting for 20 minutes for people to join, I finally shut it down and walked away from my computer. Despite my excitement leading up to the event, it felt like all my time, efforts, and preparation were WASTED. I thought out loud, “What’s the point of promoting and pouring into something no one else finds value in but ME?!” Have you ever felt that way? Had those thoughts? Immediately afterward, I got a text message from a friend I am helping find a job. He was excited to show me that after months and MONTHS of rejection, he finally got TWO responses from employers he visited with at an Inclusive Job Fair I accompanied him to 🙌🏾 What he said next underscored where I had faltered in practicing what I preach… He thanked me for supporting him and reminded me of something I consistently said to him: “You can do all the right things but you can’t make it the RIGHT time. It may even seem pointless to show up at times. SHOW UP anyway and, with time, the RIGHT people will show up too”. With that, I took the weekend to regroup and refocus, as I have advised others to do. Last week’s event wasn’t the right time, but it’s never pointless to SHOW UP. With time, the RIGHT people will show up too. For more information about my BIG NEWS, visit https://lnkd.in/gVqTmDFu. My next LinkedIn Audio Event is May 30th at 1:00 PM CST✌🏾 Check out my Events page to sign up!

A question, opinion needed! What could enhance our services or any other employability programme. Help for those who depend on more support than the average person, and maybe just the thing that'll make the difference to gaining that long awaited job/great career? 1. Increased Confidence? 2. A Good CV? 3. Interview Prep? 4. Looking and feeling the part - the right clothing/outfit? 5. All of the above? https://lnkd.in/ePUy9apn A serious question, and testing the water ahead of a big decision/announcement for Society Matters CIC tomorrow.

As the primary recruiting staffer for Faith Baptist School, I regularly receive candidate information to sift through and pass judgement on. Being a Baptist school, deriving our existence from Faith Baptist Church in Salisbury, Maryland, our school chooses to be highly selective in who it chooses to bring onto the team. The question to be answered by our hiring team is this; what are the parameters by which we make hiring decisions? For candidates to our small school, a born-again testimony of salvation is critical to ensure the proper functioning of this school as a place of both "secular" and spiritual learning. Similarly I would strongly suggest that self-consistency is crucial to the operation of any system. But at your current company, how important is it to make sure that each new hire actually believes in the mission?
