Many of our horizontal soil vapor extraction (SVE) well installations these days are for sub-slab vapor mitigation and/or contaminant mass removal. Normally for this type of drilling Ellingson-DTD personnel use a walkover locating device. The tool consists of a transmitter located directly behind the drill bit that sends a signal to a hand-held receiving unit. Today’s tooling can work on multiple frequencies allowing the bore to be located/guided in areas having high levels of electronic/electrical interference. And yes, most of the time the system allows for accurate locating under slab-on-grade buildings. When tracking outdoors we like to use paint to show the bore progression. However indoor locations with expensive flooring warrants temporary tape markings. #horizontalenvironmental #contamination
