Today is the 70th anniversary of the historical Supreme Court decision Brown v. Board of Education which ended legal segregation in public schools. Spooler was honored to produce an AI-enabled recreation of the oral arguments and decision from the original transcripts. No audio recording of the proceedings previously existed. Hear Thurgood Marshall and Chief Justice Earl Warren for the first time in Brown v. Board of Education Revisited at brown.oyez.org. This effort was a collaboration with originator Jerry Goldman, Justia, Northwestern University, Idib Group, and Respeecher. Spooler would like to thank the project Advisory Committee: John Q. Barrett, Jasmine Harris Ph.D, Timothy Johnson, Mark Liberman, Nova Lorraine, Zachary Nunn, and Andrew Thompson. Brown v. Board of Education Revisited is dedicated to the plaintiffs and their families who sacrificed so much through the Brown litigation for the benefit of all Americans.

On this Juneteenth, I wanted to share this extraordinary documentary project from The Oyez Project (in conjunction with Justia, Cornell's Legal Information Institute, and Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology) and Jerry Goldman, commemorating the 70th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education. They used Respeecher to re-create the voices of Supreme Court justices reading the announcement and the opinion, and the results are remarkable. (You can read more about the project in this article in the WSJ: https://lnkd.in/eFjYUpVR)

In a striking moment of change, the unveiling of a new statue of Lady Justice signals a powerful shift in how we perceive justice today. Traditionally, the blindfold on Lady Justice symbolizes impartiality, fairness, and the idea that justice should be delivered without bias. However, this new statue removes the blindfold, sparking deeper reflections on what justice really represents in modern times. As a student of law, I see this as a reminder that justice is not, and should not be, blind to the realities of the world. The removal of the blindfold suggests that justice must see—and acknowledge—the complexities of the system it operates within. From slow court processes to the backlog of cases, we face systemic challenges that demand attention. I believe this new representation calls for a more proactive justice system, one that not only delivers fair judgments but also acts swiftly and efficiently. After all - JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED. #Justice #LegalSystem #Impartiality #LegalReform #JusticeDelayedJusticeDenied #LawStudent #FastTrackJustice

"If we do not have civil and criminal justice then we would not have a true democracy. I believe that civil justice exists only to the point to which people have access to lawyers." Is your community advancing a civil right to counsel for those facing eviction proceedings as one of the many levers you're using to help us get to a future of abundant housing? We applaud you! 👏👏👏 And we want to help you draw in an even bigger bench of supporters and advocates. TheCaseMade, the National Coalition for a Civil Right to Counsel, and New York Law School worked together to offer “Building Support for a Civil Right to Counsel by Anchoring Your Case in Racial Justice.” 💡This resource sets out a framework and sample language you can use as you navigate critical conversations, so we can all get closer to justice. 💡 Because a right to counsel is interwoven with issues of race, having thoughtful, strategic conversations about race and racism is the only way for us to draw forward the new champions we need. Please join us Tuesday, May 21, from 2:00-3:30 pm Eastern for a webinar about this amazing new resource—and how you can join with others to build even more momentum for a right to counsel in your community. The Essence of Justice How can we understand the meaning of justice, what is the concept of justice, and can the mind reach the peak of true awareness of the concept of justice? There is no doubt that our concepts derived from reality regarding the meaning of justice need to be developed, as minds differ in their mental spaces in interpreting the logical equations of events and results. This is in addition to the fact that minds have not reached the stage of absolute perfection, in order to judge and judge causes and results in absolute language, and therefore there is no such thing as absolute justice in our material world!

Reflecting on an inspiring event during the University of Alberta’s International Week! I had the privilege of attending "Bringing the Law to Life with Justice Martin" hosted by the University of Alberta Faculty of Arts in collaboration with Canadians For A Civil Society and the Centre for Constitutional Studies. Justice Sheilah Martin, an esteemed member of the Supreme Court of Canada, graced us with her insights on advancing human rights, justice, peace, and freedom for all. Here are some key takeaways that resonated deeply with me: 🤝 Heart is at the core of solving societal issues. 📜 Laws play a vital role in upholding human equality and rights. 🌍 Human rights are fundamentally about people and communities. 💡 Moving from legal documents to real-life practice is essential for progress. 👥 Communities coming together can drive social change. ⚖️ Equality rights, particularly Section 15, are crucial for equal justice in Canada. 🌱 Courage and conviction are needed to challenge existing norms and advocate for change. 🤔 Dialogue and understanding across differences are essential for inclusion. 🙌 The way forward is through continuous learning and collaboration. I also note that it was extremely powerful to hear about the work of inclusion through another lens, that being from the lens of the law. Perhaps not surprisingly, but worth celebrating, our conclusions are the same even though we approach creating a more inclusive world from two different places. This leads me to an important reminder: it's through our collective effort that we'll be able to drive meaningful change and reinforces the notion that we are stronger together. Let's keep these insights close as we work towards a more just and inclusive society. Remember, change starts with each and every one of us. Together, we can make a difference! #JusticeForAll #HumanRights #Inclusion #SocialJustice #ChangeAgents
