Catapult River Jumping is yet to be an Olympic event. But here are some Little-Known Olympic Events The Olympics have a rich history filled with unusual and forgotten sports. Here are a few: Discontinued Events Live Pigeon Shooting: This gruesome event involved shooting live pigeons. Thankfully, it was only held once in 1900. Running Deer Shooting: Competitors shot at moving targets that resembled deer. Tug-of-War: While it might seem simple, it was an Olympic sport for several decades. Lesser-Known Modern Events Canoe Sprint: While canoeing is known, the intricacies of sprint events often go unnoticed. Badminton: Despite its popularity, it was only added to the Olympic program 1992. Modern Pentathlon: This event combines shooting, fencing, swimming, equestrian show jumping, and running. Ancient and Obscure Pankration: A brutal combination of boxing and wrestling with few rules. Hot Air Ballooning: Yes, it was once an Olympic sport. #olympics

10 international federations have already rebranded their names to World + [Sports] But which was the 1st one to set the trend ? Take a guess before scrolling down (or swiping right) for the answer 👀 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔 (Fédération Internationale de Natation) ➡️ World Aquatics in 2022 𝗜𝗧𝗨 (International Triathlon Union) ▶️ World Triathlon in 2020 𝗙𝗜𝗦𝗔 (Fédération Internationale des Sociétés d’Aviron) ▶️ World Rowing in 2020 𝗙𝗜𝗟 (Federation of International Lacrosse) ▶️ World Lacrosse in 2019 𝗜𝗔𝗔𝗙 (International Association of Athletics Federations) ▶️ World Athletics in 2019 𝗪𝗧𝗙 (World Taekwondo Federation) ▶️ World Taekwondo in 2017 (𝑚𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑙𝑦 𝑏𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑊𝑇𝐹 𝑎𝑠 𝑎𝑛 𝑎𝑐𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑦𝑚 𝑑𝑜𝑒𝑠𝑛'𝑡 ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑝) 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦 (Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports) ▶️ World Skate in 2017 𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗙 (International Sailing Federation) ▶️ World Sailing in 2015 𝗜𝗥𝗕 (International Rugby Board) ▶️ World Rugby in 2014 And the winner is ... 𝗙𝗜𝗧𝗔 (Fédération International de Tir à l’Arc) ▶️ World Archery Federation in 2009 This trend is a great opportunity for Marketing & Communications experts in international federations who haven't made the move yet to leave their marks on the future of their sports. Share your favorite rebranding in the comments 😉 Note: Volleyball World isn’t the new name of Fédération Internationale de Volleyball - FIVB—it’s a joint venture with CVC, and the FIVB brand still exists.

With 42 Olympic champions leading its delegation, China is set to embark on its most ambitious Olympic outing abroad at the upcoming Paris Games. Among the 236 disciplines in which it will compete, Chinese athletes are expected to win multiple golds in traditional sports, particularly athletics, swimming, gymnastics, diving, shooting, boxing, and weightlifting. Yet this year, the game is changing. With the recent introduction of skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing in the last Olympics, and now breakdancing — sports scarcely older in China than the country’s Olympians who will be competing in them in Paris — new disciplines are set to test the boundaries of tradition and talent. With limited experience in these sports, how has China adapted to prepare these young athletes for the biggest sporting stage of all? Read more: https://ow.ly/NSaj50SCWXs

Paris Olympics 2024 are just 1 day away! The much-awaited opening ceremony happens on Friday, 26th-July. (Infact, early stages matches for some sports like Archery starts today) As much as I enjoy cricket and other sports, the Olympics have a unique significance for me. For nearly a decade, I've had the privilege of supporting Indian athletes through OGQ (Olympic Gold Quest). It's been a meaningful part of my life to contribute in a small way to their journey toward winning Olympic gold medals. India has 117 athletes (47 females and 70 males) participating at the Paris Olympics across 16 sports, including: - Archery - Athletics - Badminton - Boxing - Equestrian - Golf - Hockey - Judo - Rowing - Sailing - Shooting - Swimming - Table Tennis - Tennis - Weightlifting - Wrestling From today until the end of the Games, I intend to share periodic updates about India's campaign. This is not to draw management or leadership lessons but simply to celebrate the athletes, their participation, and their commitment to excellence. To be among the 117 athletes representing the country from a population of 1.4 billion is a towering achievement. To put it in perspective, it's equivalent to finding one extraordinary talent in the entire population of a medium-sized country. The sketchnote here represents the first of many updates, highlighting 5 fascinating facts about the participating athletes. Here's wishing all the athletes good luck and great games.

🏆 It's Olympics Eve! 🌍 Although the opening ceremony isn't until Friday evening, the games in Paris get under way tomorrow, with football, rugby sevens, handball, archery and shooting all getting going before we see the athletes parade around with their flags. As well as the events we've come to expect at most Olympic Games, skateboarding, climbing and surfing will again be part of the action after their first inclusion at Tokyo in 2021, while breaking has been included for the very first time. Rugby and football aside, I'm most looking forward to watching plenty of sports I don't usually get the chance to see in non-Olympic years, and there's always at least one event in which I end up becoming heavily invested. In 2012, I was engrossed by the time-keeping controversy in the women's fencing semi-finals. In 2016, I was thrilled to see rugby return to the Olympics and Fiji win their first ever medal - a gold. Last time out, it was a much stranger experience due to COVID, and it was also tricky to watch too much because of the time difference, but I did enjoy watching the two forms of karate included as a one-off event. So, what will it be this year? With a much more favourable time difference, although I'll still have plenty of work to do, I'm sure plenty of events will be vying my attention, so you'll just have to watch this space to see what piques my interest over the next two and a half weeks. Are you a real Olympics-head like me? What sports are you most looking forward to watching? #LITranslators #Sport #Translation

Each place has its own customs and sense of humor, and this is the big difference when you have content from a global brand developed locally. For example, Team Brazil, a profile managed by the Comitê Olímpico do Brasil, became the leader in interactions on X by jokingly "blocking" the official profile of Team Japan "just as a test" after suffering consecutive losses in surfing, judo, street skate, and women's football. The joke was a hit and led Team Brazil to lead the digital race on X on July 29. This is the difference in social media management that connects with its audience with humor in the right tone. #SocialMediaManagement #DigitalMarketing #GlobalBrands #LocalContent #Engagement #SocialMediaHumor #ContentStrategy #TeamBrazil #COB #SocialMediaTrends #AudienceEngagement #ContentMarketing #DigitalEngagement #SocialMediaStrategy #CrossCulturalMarketing #HumorInMarketing #DigitalLeadership #BrazilianHumor

The future is now: modern(ising) pentathlon. The classic setting of Alexandria, Egypt is where we found the future of modern pentathlon. UIPM - World Pentathlon Modern Pentathlon Junior Championships landed there on yesterday, 24th June. These young competitors arrive at the sport at a time of transition. The modern pentathlon governing body, the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne has decided to make some major changes to the sport. At this summer's #Olympics the semi-finals and final will be condensed into a 90 minute programme with shooting, fencing, swimming, horse jumping and cross country running only separated by short breaks. At present competitions can run over many hours, or even days in different locations. This new format will take place in a single setting. As if this were not enough - after #Paris2024 an obstacle course will replace horse riding. These changes were announced in a direct attempt to maintain the sport's prominence at the Olympics. As some feel it is pandering to the powers of TV, there are many unhappy pentathletes. The UK's Joe Choong MBE has stated that he will walk away from the sport once the changes arrive. The youngsters at Alexandria will be the first generation to see the even more modern pentathlon as the new normal. Time to discover who the champions of the future are. #pentathlon #theuipm #modernpentathlon #istaa #istaaorg #sportstravel #sportshospitality #goistaamembers #strongertogether
