Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’, announced that it has been awarded 3- star Environmental Accreditation by the FIA, its highest level of recognition for environmental performance. The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme is aimed at helping motorsport organizations measure and enhance their environmental performance. Split across three tiers, the top 3- star accreditation is awarded to those that demonstrate best practice and commitment and seek continual improvement through the implementation of an environmental management system. The award follows a detailed application and auditing process where BIC was evaluated across several areas including commitment from senior leadership towards environmental management, clearly defined environmental objectives, auditing and measurement across areas including energy, water and waste management, transport and logistics, biodiversity and carbon emissions. #BahrainInternationalCircuit #FIA #EnvironmentalAccreditation #Motorsport #Sustainability #GreenInitiative #ClimateAction #Bahrain #manamabahrain #bahrainthisweek #kingdomofbahrain🇧🇭 #bahrain #kingdomofbahrain #bahraini #bahrainnews #bahraininstagram #BahrainThisWeek #kingdomofbahrain👑

How the Australian Grand Prix Corporation is leading the sustainability race Major sporting events come to fruition thanks to an ecosystem of organisations, with each player a cog in a much larger machine. So, when you don’t have control over every single aspect in an event’s organisation, how do you truly weave #sustainability into your operations and areas in which you do? The Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix is set to return as the sport’s season opener from next year, welcoming almost half a million motorsport fans across four days of action. After the COVID-19 pandemic foiled 2020’s event and 2021’s race was cancelled for the same reason, Formula 1 fans have returned to Albert Park in Melbourne in their droves. For the third year in a row, last month’s Australian Grand Prix welcomed a record-breaking attendance, this time attracting 452,055. Curating and building an event that is set to welcome a crowd of this magnitude can present some challenges – and this is even more significant when the Australian Grand Prix’s location is a temporary street track. However, it also presents the opportunity to be creative. Sarah Lowe, AGPC's Sustainability Manager, explains some of the initiatives implemented for the Formula 1 Grand Prix and #MotoGP events in #Australia. Formula 1 is taking significant strides toward sustainability with a bold commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. The sport is focusing on reducing its environmental impact across multiple areas, including transitioning to 100% sustainable fuels by 2026. Although fuel emissions from the cars themselves account for less than 1% of the total carbon footprint, F1 is addressing energy use, waste management, and event sustainability. By implementing circular economy practices and sustainable material usage, the sport aims to lead the way in environmental responsibility. To learn more about F1's sustainability efforts and their progress toward a greener future, check out the full article. https://lnkd.in/dZvBp7FM #sustainability #leadership #future #green #technology #formula1 #f1 #environment

🔍 A groundbreaking study by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) has unveiled the transformative potential of the proposed North Atlantic Emission Control Area (AtlECA). This initiative could redefine maritime environmental standards and significantly reduce emissions from ships traversing the North Atlantic Ocean. 🌐 The proposed AtlECA encompasses the territorial seas and exclusive economic zones of Spain, Portugal, France, the UK, Ireland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland. It also considers including Portugal’s Azores and Madeira, as well as Spain’s Canary Islands. 📉 The numbers are compelling: An 82% reduction in sulfur oxides (SOx) A 64% reduction in fine particulate matter (PM2.5) A 36% reduction in black carbon (BC) emissions by 2030, if distillate fuel is used. 🚀 For NOx emissions, the Tier III standards could lead to: A modest 3% reduction for ships built in 2027 or later A substantial 71% reduction if applied to all ships’ engines. 🔬 The study meticulously models compliance scenarios using low-sulfur fuels or equivalent technologies approved by MARPOL Annex VI. 🤝 As a sustainability enthusiast with a focus on emission reductions, I find the AtlECA proposal aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and reduce pollution. 💡 The AtlECA could serve as a blueprint for other regions and industries, showcasing how targeted regulations can yield significant environmental benefits. It’s a call to action for policymakers, industry leaders, and environmental advocates to unite for a cleaner, greener planet. #CleanTransport #Sustainability #MaritimeEmissions #EnvironmentalPolicy #GreenInnovation #ClimateAction

In 2019, F1 launched its sustainability strategy with three key goals: - Achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2030 - Leave a legacy of positive change wherever it races - Build a more diverse and inclusive sport So... how is it doing? I've taken a look at the newly released F1 Impact Report on Sustainability Magazine “Sustainability is one of the most important factors to us not only as a sport, but as a business,” said Stefano Domenicali, President & CEO of Formula 1. “It is no longer enough for us to simply deliver great action and wheel-to-wheel racing on the track, we need to ensure that we are doing so in a sustainable way so our sport can thrive long into the future." #Formula1 #Sustainability #NetZero DHL
