The journey to becoming an Inclusive Employer is a collaborative process, and it looks like this. 👇 Chermside Bowls Club is one of many businesses that have jumped onto the Helping Hands for Tourism initiative and gone through the process of becoming an inclusive employer. "Clients with disability are just like everyone else when finding employment. It comes down to the right person for the right job," said Olivia, one of HELP's Local Navigators - specialists in pairing job seekers with tourism businesses. On this journey, Club Manager Mel has been working closely with Olivia and Partnership Coordinator Jaspa. Not only to ensure HELP understood the club's employment needs but also to support successful candidates during trial periods and provide guidance on how the club can confidently support employees with disability. "I happened to need staff at the time [that HELP contacted the club]," said Mel, "and thought: why not?" Assistant Professor of Management & Entrepreneurship, Frank G. Zarb School of Business, Hofstra University
Check out our latest research (with Christopher McLeod & Richard Paulsen) examining economic job quality in the spectator sports industry to see what we found concerning pay, health insurance coverage, and part-time work ⬇️ #sportsbiz #sportbusiness
Economic job equality in the US spectator sports industry is the focus of an article co-authored by Assistant Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship Lauren Hindman published recently in the journal of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (Emerald Publishing). Study findings reveal that working in this industry is associated with lower pay, lower likelihood of employer-provided health coverage, and higher likelihood of part-time employment. https://lnkd.in/g-gTscDg #equality #diversity #inclusion #sportsindustry #zarbmeansbusiness

As #NDEAM continues, JESPY client Roger shares, "I have been a member of JESPY House for 17 1/2 years. I strongly believe that employment is very important for me and for others with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities because working in worthwhile jobs at interesting places gives us purpose in life and a sense of pride. It also builds our self-esteem, earns us recognition by organizations and their audiences, and makes us effective contributors to society." National Disability Employment Awareness Month (#NDEAM) shines a light on the value workers with disabilities bring to the workplace and what having employment means for those with a disability. NDEAM activities don't have to end in October, YOU can support year-round inclusion in your organization's diversity endeavors. Last week, the uLaunch team spent valuable time with Specialisterne Australia gaining deeper insights into how we can better support our neurodivergent participants in finding and sustaining meaningful employment along with creating a more neuroinclusive workplace at uLaunch. Key to this effort is our commitment to tailoring our disability support model by incorporating feedback from both our partners, employees and participants. We had in-depth discussions around the crucial role of coaching, the necessity of employer training, and the importance of additional support tools. We also examined the impact of traditional CV preparation and interview processes on our participants. These conversations are essential to continuously improving our approach and ensuring the delivery of quality and accessible employment pathways. This is just the beginning of many discussions as we strive to co-create innovative and effective solutions that empower people with disabilities to thrive in employment, their communities, and beyond. Thank you to Specialisterne for their collaboration and to our community for their ongoing support. [ID: A photograph of a woman smiling and looking directly at the camera. 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼-𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 (𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻) Over the last year, we have had several people reach out to offer their support to our organisation. However, we have not had a structured way to engage these people who want to be volunteers. As a result, we are now inviting expressions of interest to become our Volunteer Co-Ordinator. This will not be a paid position, and we will be very grateful if someone with volunteer management experience chooses to put their hand up to assist. We are confident that this can be an inspiring role, where you can work with the great content that Believe:ND has developed, and you will have freedom to manage this function in the best way you can. 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 Diversity of thought and behaviour is in our DNA and we encourage applicants from all backgrounds, including race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, culture, family status and belief, as well as neurologically diverse applicants. However, as our Volunteer Co-ordinator it is likely that you are a person who has personal experience of the employment struggles of neurodivergent people. You probably have a passion to see that change. 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 The Volunteer Co-ordinator will be responsible for the following: • Be the first contact for people seeking to volunteer for Believe:NeuroDiversity; • Reach out to those people who have already expressed interest; • Engage with each person to identify the best way they can contribute; • Clear the way so they can get on with their contribution; • Maintain a register of volunteers, and communicate with them regularly; • Collaborate with the Board on the tasks the Board prioritises, whilst also influencing those decisions based on their capabilities and interests; and • Follow up with volunteers to ensure tasks are getting done. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 We want to know why you are interested in this position and why you would be a great candidate. Please let us know in whatever format showcases your skills and capabilities. You can send a written or video message to info@believe-nd.org.au If you would prefer a conversation, please call Mark Solonsch, President on 0411 179 018 Should you have a question about the role, these can also be emailed to info@believe-nd.org.au. https://lnkd.in/gTPerVxU #volunteer #believend #neurodiversity
