Javier Tebas, President of LaLiga, views this initiative as crucial for strengthening LaLiga’s presence in North America, explaining, "An official game in the United States would strengthen our position in the North American market, which is the second [biggest] for LaLiga after Spain." This strategy is a huge growth opportunity and an innovative way to engage directly with American fans and introduce them to the vibrant Spanish football culture. A 27% hike in Norway’s Eliteserien, for example, along with 26% rises in the Polish Ekstraklasa and Romania’s SuperLiga. The latter two, in particular, have worked hard to make flagging products more appealing domestically [...] there is clear evidence that, if you build a likable local product, they will come." Once Copa America's 2024 final concludes this Sunday, and after a total of 6 matches played for each finalist, it is estimated that Colombia’s National team will have attracted upwards of 341 thousand passionate fans to U.S venues, generating close to$120 million in ticket sales alone. This huge impact goes beyond ticket sales and benefits many sectors of the economy. Undeniable support from an incredible fervor of soccer fans! In comparison, Argentina’s team is estimated to generate about $151 million in ticket sales, in part due to playing in larger capacity stadiums, plus the undeniable “Messi” factor. Both Colombia and Argentina have driven enthusiastic fans to the games in sellout numbers, representing the highest attendance figures for the entire tournament, or about half of the full season’s attendance to date! This year's total attendance numbers (1.6 million+) are also projected to surpass those of Copa America Centenario, the last time the U.S. hosted the Conmebol event. WELL DONE!
