⚽ Club Football Governance - Evolution of #MultiClubOwnership ⚽ As natural consequence of the growth of the #MCO model, an increasing number of clubs across Europe is falling under the control of the biggest (or wealthiest) sides from the continent. A total of 27 European clubs are now controlled by (or under the significant influence of) #PremierLeague club owners. 💰 Real Madrid CF topped the squad market value ranking, with a valuation of EUR 1,364m, bolstered by the signing of Kylian Mbappé, who is currently the most valuable player in the world. #PremierLeague clubs have generated the highest average revenues in global football. The combined club revenues is nearly 2X that of the nearest #LALIGA clubs (as per 21/22 season report). At Sports Business Institute Barcelona we decided to explore this further. Here are some key points: - Average revenue of the top 6 clubs in 2022/23: £580m - Average revenue of the remaining 14 clubs in 22/23: £184m In the same context, the valuations of Premier League clubs (considering valuation data as per Sportico, Jan 2023, revenues 22/23) - Average valuation of top 6 clubs: £3.4bn - Average valuation of the next 14 clubs: £284m The valuation to revenue multiplier - Top 6 clubs: 5.9 - Next 14 clubs: 1.5 Average Premier League club: 2.8

The evolution of the aggregate league valuation in the Premier League 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. 💰 With a total of 415 Premier League players valued in 2018, at an average player value of €19.7 million, the Premier League had an aggregate league valuation of €8,168 million. 📈 Fast forward to May 2024, and the Premier League’s valuation has reached €11,332 million with an all-time high average player value of €24.5 million across the 462 players that were valued. However, the highest aggregate league valuation was recorded in December 2023 at €11,750 million, mainly due to a lager amount of players valued (527). 💰 The spending during the 2024/25 summer transfer window in selected leagues. “Only” 2 of the 8 selected leagues have concluded the transfer window with a positive transfer balance, with that being the Eredivisie (+€107.7M) and the Liga Portugal (+€185.7M). 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Significantly, 4 leagues saw major shifts in their spending patterns compared to last summer. The English Premier League, in particular, demonstrated a remarkable turnaround, improving its transfer balance by over €550 million from -€1.27 billion to -€716.2 million compared to the summer of 2023. 🇸🇦 Much like the trend seen in England, the Saudi Pro League have significantly scaled back its spending compared to last summer.
