Oslo Business Forum vs. Nordic Business Forum, which is better? I was in Oslo this week. At the event, one Norwegian told me that Finns tend to be silent. I broke the stereotype for sure 😄 The biggest difference was the setup for networking. At NBF, you’ve been able to schedule short 1to1 talks with other event participants via Brella. It’s been great. In advance, you can check who has shared interests and find time for discussions. At OBF this chance didn't exist. So, it was networking on the spot, which was more random, and this Finnish guy went to talk with many new & unknown people. I needed to put in some effort, but it was exciting too ✌ Anyway, from a participant point of view, I feel everyone can find even more relevant discussions and gain extra with an event app if it’s well communicated & planned. Christoffer Omberg, I believe the colleagues from NBF can share insights on that with your team. What else. Well, Helsinki event is bigger with about ~7000 people and 3000 at Oslo. The proportion of foreigners seems to be higher in NBF whereas in OBF maybe ~95% were Norwegian. But if either of these is your target market, you should go. There’s probably no better place to meet a big crowd of Nordic business leaders. At both events, the standard of speakers has always been high. This year my favorite was Peter Hinssen's engaging presentation on how organizations can grow in the rapidly changing environment. Also, otherwise, I saw great presenters on stage and learned a lot that wouldn’t cross my mind in the day-to-day work. The verdict. So far, each event we attended has generated at least 1 new client (don’t know about this year yet). We pick up things from the absolute top speakers. My colleague Lauri was now at NBF, I still need to hear his reflections. But if the trend continues, we’ll be happy with ROI and buy more tickets. See you again next year! 😃

Networking events and conferences can feel awkward AF at times… But the mesh conference was the opposite of this experience. The way that it was designed and structured is what made it different… From a networking perspective, most attendees were curious and collaborative… I’ve learned that the initial engagement of a conversation can be awkward at times but what gets me excited is facilitating introductions based on the new connections that I make 🤝 From an agenda perspective, it alternated between a panel / speaker to a networking break and then we ended on a high-note with Meghan Donohoe and Sabrina Sullivan (she / her) facilitating an engaging and insightful conversation about how unsustainable leadership currently is especially in a complex world full of adaptive challenges. 📣 Now, for the shout outs: Thank you Paisley Churchill for telling me about this conference! Thank you Digital Alberta for doing a giveaway and selecting me as one of the winners 🙏 Alicia Kalozdi MacMillan Chris Hogg Sheri Moore, you and your team crushed it! To all of the incredible new connections that I’ve made at this event, I can’t wait to see where some of these synergies will take us! 🎉To the speakers, it is inevitable that I’m going to miss a few speakers, but a huge kudos to all of you for creating an engaging experience: Leen Li, CPA, CMA Pauline Chan Lauren J Dwyer, PhD Sabrina Sullivan (she / her) Meghan Donohoe April Hicke Brenda Beckedorf Jodi Kovitz Lana A. Dubinskiy Jenny Kay Pollock Avery Francis Mohamed Z. Margo Purcell Claire Dixon Paisley Churchill Tim Carwell Lulu Mashonganyika I’m walking away from this event further inspired to: - Do cool sh*t with cool people and share the cool sh*t that they do. - Further clarify the impact that I want to help leaders and organizations make as they navigate the complex space of change and the evolution of technology. 🌟 Reflections & Engagements: Seeking Value in Industry Conferences 🌟 Recently, I attended an industry conference that left me pondering about the real value we seek and should expect from such gatherings. While the opportunity to connect with industry peers always holds potential, this particular experience was shadowed by several aspects that didn’t quite meet expectations. The keynotes, often the heartbeat of these events, lacked the spark and inspiration we all look forward to. Additionally, the venue and organisers seemed to prioritize profit over the participatory experience, which certainly took away from the essence of communal learning and growth. This experience has led me to reflect on what truly makes a conference worthwhile. Is it the caliber of speakers, the actionable insights gained, or perhaps the opportunity for genuine networking that doesn’t feel transactional? I’m keen to hear about your experiences: . What conferences have you attended that you felt were truly value for money? . What elements made them stand out? . What were the key takeaways or growth opportunities you extracted from these events? Your insights and stories could help many of us navigate towards more meaningful and enriching professional gatherings. Looking forward to reading your thoughts in the comments below! #IndustryConferences #ProfessionalGrowth #Networking #KeynoteSpeakers #ValueForMoney

Here are 3 Tips for getting maximum value from attending a conference: Attending a conferences is a real investment, in time, money and energy. Pick the right conferences for your business and they can be so valuable. But with so much information and so many interesting people - how do you get the most out of it? 💥 My 3 tips from attending Priority One Western Bay of Plenty Day break festival this week (so far!). 👉 #Tip 1: Take One Actionable Tip from each session for your business. The challenge was to choose just one - the speakers below gave so much value! Julie Chappell - Be honest about what you are doing well and not so well and how you are perceived by your clients. Sam Kidd - when you build a community, use it as a platform to champion it's members - not your product. Lisa Ebbing Hotmilk Lingerie - The machine of growth creates a daily grind that stiffles creativity. Make the space and time to get your mojo back. Tania Bui - Base your offering on what you clients want, not your own thoughts - you are unlikely to be in your target market. 👉 #Tip 2: Look for key themes running through the talks. Here are mine from Day 1. It's ALL about relationships - whether that be clients, colleagues or stakeholders. And as the panel discussion hosted by Toi Kai Rawa brought to life perfectly: building relationships and connecting isn't a job we do and move on, it's something we constantly pay attention to even if it takes '1000 cups of tea' 👉 # Tip 3: Be intentional with how you spend your time. There are so many amazing people attending these conferences, it gives us the opportunity to network, collaborate and learn. Look who is there - and use your time wisely. ❓How do you get the most out of attending conferences? ❓Have you been at daybreak - what have been your key takeaways? #leadership #teameffectiveness #personaldevelopement
