The Scottish Government has announced amendments to building regulations, setting the stage for a Scottish Passive House Equivalent! This milestone marks an important step toward energy-efficient, sustainable housing. Passivhaus Trust Research & Policy Director Sarah Lewis sums it up: "An important first step, but we’re eager for precise energy targets and tools to align with Passive House standards." 🚨 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Consultation Alert! Scottish Passivhaus equivalent - Stage 1 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🚨   This week the Scottish Government released its Stage 1 Consultation regarding the proposed Scottish Passivhaus equivalent standard.   The purpose of this standard is to continue the Scottish Government’s commitment to its Net Zero goals and to provide ultra low energy, low carbon homes that are built inline with design intent.   The first stage of this process aims to gather industry views on how the Passivhaus standard could be implemented within the Scottish Building Standards. Stage 2 is anticipated in Summer 2025 which will provide further detail about this standard in practice and the performance targets required.   SK/AD supports the Government’s Net Zero goals and look forward to providing our practical feedback in this initial consultation. Delighted to be speaking to a broader audience about the benefits of the Passivhaus and AECB standards with the Supply Chain Sustainability School (UK). When teaching the Passivhaus courses with Coaction Training CIC, so many people say to me 'I didn't realise that gaps in insulation had such an effect on performance', or 'I didn't realise how important airtightness is to good building and occupant health'. It's in our building regulations don't you know! Don't let the word Passivhaus put you off, it's just about building right. Edward Lockhart-Mummery, Future Homes Hub CEO, gives evidence to the Environmental Audit Committee on environmental sustainability and housing growth. This clip covers how new homes are decarbonising. With the Future Homes Standard coming in, all electric new homes will be zero carbon in operation as the electricity grid decarbonises. The next challenge is the carbon embodied in materials, transport and construction of new homes. The sector is currently taking action to measure embodied carbon consistently and therefore understand how best to reduce it, working with supply sectors such as cement and concrete, bricks, timber, glass and asphalt, looking at home design and how and what energy sources are used on site.
