Supporting mothers with postpartum depression (PPD) is a critical aspect of their recovery journey. It involves understanding, empathy, and practical assistance from family, friends, and healthcare providers. The goal is to create a nurturing environment that acknowledges their struggles and offers the support needed to navigate through this challenging period. One of the most important forms of support is simply being there and listening. Open, judgment-free communication can make a significant difference. Encourage the new mother to express her feelings and thoughts without fear of being dismissed or criticized. Encouraging the mother to seek professional help is another vital aspect of support. This might involve helping her find a therapist or counselor who specializes in postpartum issues, accompanying her to appointments, or even discussing treatment options. We see you. As mothers we understand how easy it is to reach out for the support our children need, but when it comes to taking care of our needs, we often place ourselves on the back burner. We know how hard it can be to admit that you need help, to reach out, and to take that first step. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness; it’s a sign of strength. It means you are ready to take care of yourself so you can be the best version of yourself for your child and family. It's the beginning of a journey towards healing, understanding, and finding balance. Whether you struggle with birth trauma, postpartum depression, medical trauma or anything perinatal related, we are with you every step of the way. You are not alone. You are strong. You are brave. And you are deserving of support. 🔗 Link in bio. #PerinatalSupport #PostpartumCare #MomSupport #MentalHealthMatters #SelfCareForMoms #YYCMom #CalgaryMoms #AlbertaMom #EncircledTherapy

https://lnkd.in/gAwfYBWB On this National Infertility awareness week, I’m thinking of all the individuals and couples going infertility across different communities🧡 This journey is one of the hardest things a person/couple can go through. As as a society, we are not informed about infertility, how common it is (1 in 6 couples), and the mental health challenges associated with it. Our healthcare systems and employment places don’t do enough to support those navigating infertility and now reprensatives in various states are attempting to block access to fertility treatments. On this #NIAW, educate yourself on the topic, check these slides, and look into @resolveorg on all the great work they are doing to support those navigating infertility and protecting access to fertility treatments. #1in6 #Infertilityawareness #NIAW2024

May #mentalhealthawareness Infertility so often creates a profoundly emotionally distressing life crisis for the individuals and couples impacted — It is demonstrated without question that infertility and the impact of ART treatments can lead to excessive stress, anxiety, depression and experiences of reproductive trauma or loss. Yet the relationship between stress and infertility is still not adequately understood. What does this mean? It means that until we have more methodologically sound research, blame and misconceptions around stress causing infertility, or negatively impacting treatment outcomes, need to be corrected. What we do know for sure is that counseling and mental health support for fertility patients improves quality of life during the treatment process and reduces premature discontinuation of treatment. During Mental Health Awareness Month, MHPG wants to support fertility providers and patients alike in reducing shame or stigma around infertility and associated mental health struggles, and removing barriers to access for much needed mental health care. Understanding Postpartum Depression: It Doesn’t Have an Expiry Date Postpartum depression (PPD) is a complex, intense, and often misunderstood condition that can affect new mothers. It’s important to recognize that PPD is not just the “baby blues” and it doesn’t simply fade away with time. Up to 1 in 7 women experience PPD, which can manifest days or even months after childbirth and can last for many weeks or months if left untreated. PPD can challenge a mother’s ability to care for her baby and herself, but it’s crucial to remember that it is treatable, and recovery is possible with the right support and care. It was lovely to chat with Zahra Jani and I invite you all to invite you to watch a full video on YouTube. We deep dive into the real challenges of new motherhood. It’s an honest discussion between two moms that sheds light on the experiences many new mothers face but often go unspoken about. Join the conversation and let’s spread awareness.
