"Further research is needed on how to define primary care panels to most accurately capture the list of patients that are currently seeking primary care from a given PCP, which could contribute to a widely accepted, standard approach to panel definition." This JAMA, Journal of the American Medical Association article is helpful to remind us we are not making much progress with panel definition and size and we shouldn't expect a standard is just going to "appear" on the scene...as if academics could agree on one method. How are you measuring this incredibly important metric in your Primary Care delivery model? A simple framework for weighted panels is out there! #primarycare #primarycarephysicians #PCPs (do click on the article linked below - not sure what 'abuse notice' from JAMA means!)

JAMA is launching “Communicating Medicine”, a new series of essays aimed at improving communication of medicine and health-related topics to patients. The first article in the series discusses strategies for clinicians to share credible and clear health information with their patients and emphasizes the doctor’s responsibility to understand the patient’s perspective, deliver accurate information clearly, and build trust through various techniques. These insights show the power of effective #communication in strengthening doctor/patient relationships. Impactful disease state awareness initiatives, focused on accurate information and patient understanding, can help facilitate this and have the potential to directly impact healthcare outcomes and prevent negative consequences. EHR’s are data rich, but information poor. HDAI is bridging the gap and making EHR data more insightful/easier to navigate. Ask me how!
EHRs are too difficult to navigate with mountains of data, burdening clinicians to convert this information into clinically relevant and useful knowledge for treating their patients. The American Medical Association is now taking steps forward in working with clinicians to address this mounting problem, particularly with patient symptom data. HDAI synthesizes disparate EHR data into insights that support clinical decision making, allowing providers to spend more time at the bedside and less time staring at a computer screen, hunting for basic information. #DYK? Research published in Critical Care Explorations and led by Dr. Christopher Hollenbeak from the Department of Health Policy and Administration at The Pennsylvania State University, uncovered how the IntelliSep test, in a model analysis, could help hospitals save over $800 on average per potentially septic patient tested compared to procalcitonin. The publication concludes that IntelliSep may provide health systems with a higher-value diagnostic test in ED sepsis evaluation.
