Today’s spotlight: Ina Kodrasi, Group Leader at Idiap Research Institute
A senior female academic once gave me invaluable advice: 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱, 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘬 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘧𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘦𝘳𝘴.
When I joined Idiap Research Institute in late 2019, I found myself as the only woman among 15 group leaders. The environment was kind and welcoming, but something was missing.
That’s when I met Ina Kodrasi , then a postdoc and now a group leader for over two years.
💡 𝐀 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠, Ina has a sharp, critical, and honest view of the world. Her work reflects her love for the beauty of mathematics. She values the style, elegance, and simplicity of an algorithm over chasing performance metrics. She’s also someone who knows how to inject humor into even the most challenging days.
It’s often said that academia needs more women. But more urgently, academia needs more 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲—not in opposition to brilliance, but alongside it. Ina embodies this balance.
🌟 𝐇𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡, 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐞𝐱𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. And her sense of humor? A life-saver.
Thank you, Ina, for these years of camaraderie. We need more sisters in science—not just to share laughs, complain about sleepless nights caused by our little monsters, or exchange fears and doubts, but to cheer each other on and build each other up.
💖 I believe in the power of sisterhood. And Ina, you are one of my sisters.
