📢 The results of our groundbreaking national survey on Research Integrity affirms the need for strengthened Research Integrity Training! The survey was conducted in India by Springer Nature in collaboration with The National Academy of Sciences India, Indian National Young Academy of Sciences and CSIR-National Physical Laboratory. The findings cite widespread backing for compulsory in-person research integrity training across all researcher groups. The survey findings highlight that 87% of researchers found such trainings to be effective, and a majority (62%) believe it should be made mandatory, particularly for postgraduate students and early-career researchers. The research institutes must reach out to the masses, particularly students to educate them about the importance of science. Dr. Jitendra Singh underscored the need to synergise several research institutes and laboratories working under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to bolster ease of living of people #sciencefabrics #educationforall ##researchanddevelopment #universities https://lnkd.in/gtUNQ_K3

Mercator Senior Research Fellow - "Desirable Digitalisation: Rethinking AI for Just and Sustainable Futures" / / Philosophy / Literature / Humanism and Technology / Yugoslav Studies
“Curricula that focus on solving practical problems” - no, but agreed with the rest. The PhD, as its name says, Doctor of Philosophy, is not about solving practical problems but about the practice of critical thinking and the ability to read and interpret reality. That’s what’s lacking today; not problem-solvers (plenty of those in Silicon Valley, industry, and business!). You cannot solve a problem if you do not understand it. That’s the task of PhDs - attempting to understand what constantly escapes understanding. And for that PhDs need funds, time, and a system of education that provides a place for open conversation with professors, peers, but also professionals from outside academia. Reform the PhD, reform curricula, but do not focus on late capitalist ideas of hyper productivity and problem-solving (what already Marx called “the general intellect” in service of the dominant economic system). Foster thought. Thought in itself.

Reform the PhD system or close it down The current system of PhD education is broken and unsustainable. Universities face financial challenges, and the number of PhD programs must be reduced. There are two options: either radically reform PhD programs or shut them down. The necessary changes are both curricular and institutional. Solution: Interdisciplinary Education 1. Many PhD programs are too specialized, with curricula that are fragmented and irrelevant to the world beyond academia. 2. Universities must establish programs that nourish cross-disciplinary investigation and communication. 3. They must design curricula that focus on solving practical problems, such as providing clean water to a growing population. Read full article @ https://lnkd.in/gketCyEt HEC Pakistan Andrew Akbashev

A thoughtful and riveting piece. I should also add that there is the need to discourage the politicization and commercialization of the PhD System. What are your thoughts on this topic?

am putting a strain on point number 3 aired out by Dr.M. Saif.... Currently people go for masters and PhDs for employment, promotions at work, job qualifications for job seekers and last but not least PRESTIGE. And some don't have reasons at all!!!!!! BUT what is the real motive of introducing these higher education levels???? First and foremost, why was education introduced and why did they demarcate levels....Primary, Secondary,High level,Masters and PhDs. Introducing education might be valid, but why LEVEL IT????? In a layman's brain: a person with primary level education will not solve a problem like a secondary level person, and so on and so forth......In short, the more knowledge you have, the easier to come about numerous problems not necessarily personal problems......Maybe that is what was at the back of their heads when introducing education level systems. My query is: What positive impact have you shown in your society with your PhD and Masters??? May I reverse my question into a statement: take a note book and a pen and outline what your society has achieved through your masters and PhD.

1moInsightful! But you could add little more details like total participants and which state and institutions the respondents belong to.
