[HAPPY 8TH OF MARCH TO ALL WOMEN!]
As you know, today is International Women's Day. As a company run by women and with a high percentage of female employment, we place particular importance on celebrating this occasion. So today we have decided to tell you or remind you why this day was established.
For decades, it was mistakenly thought that Women's Day was established following a factory fire in which tens of women workers died. However, already at the beginning of the 20th century in Russia, in several European countries, as well as in the United States, days had been set aside in February and March when women were free to demonstrate to demand their rights.
However, the highly political connotation of Women's Day in its early manifestations, the events of World War II, and finally the subsequent political isolation of Russia and the communist movement in the Western world, contributed to the loss of historical memory of the real origins of the event.
By resolution 3010 (XXVII) of 18 December 1972, recalling twenty-five years since the first session of the Commission on the Status of Women - held in Lake Success, Nassau County, between 10 and 24 February 1947 - the UN proclaimed 1975 as the "International Year of Women".
On 16 December 1977, by resolution 32/142, the UN General Assembly proposed that each country, while respecting local historical traditions and customs, declare one day a year to be "United Nations Day for Women's Rights and International Peace". With this resolution, the Assembly recognised the role of women in peace efforts and acknowledged the urgency of ending all discrimination and increasing support for women's full and equal participation in the civil and social life of their country.
8 March, already celebrated in several countries, was chosen as the official date by many nations.
We hope that in the not-too-distant future women's rights and gender equality will be achieved in all countries.
