Check out this article by Gloria Coleman at The News-Review, which features FRA member company Roseburg Forest Products. The company offers #internships for students to gain hands-on experience working in the woods. 🗨️ “It’s super interesting. There’s a lot going on in the timber industry, more than meets the eye. So it’s been a really fun experience, getting to learn about it and kind of be in it,” says Owen Vredenburg, a current intern. 👉 Read the full article here: Douglas County's Rising Workers' Interest in the Forests https://lnkd.in/eyfAvZdD 📚 FRA Further Reading: Cultivating Future Foresters https://lnkd.in/ePNfFEau To Attract People to the Forest Industry, We Need to Be Attractive https://lnkd.in/eCphNvMa The Forest Industry Needs More Young Talent https://lnkd.in/epHhdE2u

For Geswein Farm & Land, I write about #womeninag as a way for women to learn about different aspects of the agriculture industry outside of traditional farming. In this profile, I spoke with Molly Grotjan, who is a recent Purdue University graduate now working for John Deere as a Supply Chain Management Specialist. Molly shares why internships are important and why getting used to being uncomfortable is an important part of life.

The Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Management is happy to announce that we have our ExperienceUNB portal open for summer 2024 internship/employment positions to be submitted that either our upper undergraduate and/or professional masters students will be looking to apply for. Students will also receive academic credit for their summer work experiences by completing learning objectives shortly after their summer placement begins, writing a structured report, and presenting on overview of their experience within our faculty in the fall. Please visit https://experience.unb.ca/ New to Experience UNB? If this is a first time login, an employer profile will be needed - this will not take long and will be "one and done" - never needed again for future postings. Your profile will need to be "approved" by the Experience UNB folks and then you will be able to post opportunities (note: there could be a 1-2 day lag). Returning Partners Please login under 'Employers', navigate to Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Management on the left-hand side and choose 'Programs and Courses'. Once into our page, click on Create New + (small and over to the right on the page) to add in the information to post an internship/summer job opportunity. Ideally these are paid summer positions, but we can also post volunteer opportunities and it will be up to the students to apply or not. In order for the work-integrated opportunities to also count for academic credit for the students, it must be a minimum of 12 weeks and a minimum of 30h/week. Fully funded summer opportunities? Go straight to the portal to start the process. Looking for additional funding to help hire more than one student, or help stretch your $ a bit further? Please send a message to foremdean@unb.ca to let us know if you would like to explore matching funding opportunities (+ you also can click the box on the ExperienceUNB opportunity) so we can engage with you sooner rather than later to ensure success with matching funds. Please share this wide and far - we want to be able to provide as many career-relevant work-integrated summer employment opportunities as possible to our students.

The germination test is essential because it helps determine if seeds are viable and can grow into healthy plants. By conducting this test, we can assess the quality of seeds, predict their ability to sprout, and ensure successful plant growth. It's a crucial step in seed production and farming to select the best seeds for planting, leading to higher crop yields and healthy plant development. #internship #SeedScience

Data Analyst (Microsoft Excel, Power BI, SQL, Tableau) // FIRST CLASS GRADUATE OF AGRICULTURE // Fashion Designer // DATA SCIENTIST IN VEIW
Three initial steps to consider when deciding on an agricultural career. 1. When considering a career in agriculture, explore alternative paths like agribusiness and food technology in addition to traditional farming. Gain real-world experience through internships and education to make informed decisions based on interests, abilities, and lifestyle preferences. 2. Success in the dynamic agricultural sector requires adaptability to changes driven by environmental factors, market shifts, and technological advancements. Stay informed about industry developments and network with professionals to stay ahead. 3. Seek mentorship from experienced individuals for valuable advice and encouragement throughout career advancement. Choose a path in agriculture aligned with your interests and values to find fulfilment and progression in the field. For almost 10 years I've been working supporting new entrant farmers in the agroecological/organic sector. There's a shocking lack of routes into the industry, and for years, many have taken on unpaid/low paid traineeships (which can leave people open to exploitation) in order to gain the skills and experience they need. A change in employment law has removed this option though, so I wrote this piece looking at what this means for the sector: https://lnkd.in/ewCUvJtN
Is this the end of the farm traineeship?

From my conversations with the community, I've learned that involving everyone in decision-making promotes long-term conservation success. Local people know a lot about the ecosystem, its plants and animals, and the problems it faces. Their knowledge and experiences make sure that everyone who depends on the area's natural resources benefits from conservation efforts This collaborative approach improves how conservation helps everyone involved. #conservation #communitybasedapproach #communityengagement #humanwildlifeconflict #conflictmanagement #wildlifeconservation #internship #learning #gaininginsights #gainingknowledge #gainingexperience #conservationist #conservationmatters #saveearth #savewildlife
