In a world that often values self-interest & personal gain, it’s important to remember the power of sacrifice & selflessness. Sacrifice is the ultimate act of love & compassion, demonstrating our willingness to put others before ourselves. Whether it’s giving up our time, resources, or even our own desires, sacrifice has the ability to inspire & encourage those around us. The ultimate test of a man's conscience may be his willingness to sacrifice something today for future generations whose words of thanks will not be heard. Great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice, and is never the result of selfishness. What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains & is immortal. #iQor #MemorialDay iQor

What's there to celebrate? It's the 51st anniversary of #MartialLaw declaration. The triumph of impunity over accountability is no cause for celebration, but there's necessity for constant commemoration. "The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting." The #Philippines has been denied of an opportunity for #TransitionalJustice, which should have been carried out by the purported liberal-democrats during the 30-year post-dictatorship period. Here again was my contribution to #MartialLaw50, exactly a year ago today: "To fact-check and counter the historical denialism of the #Marcos family, there is need for a counterfactual history analysis of the failings of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution." ** Link: https://lnkd.in/dupcebX9

Dominionist ideology in US military leadership: There is evidence that dominionist ideology - the belief that Christians have a divine mandate to take control of civil institutions and implement a conservative biblical worldview across society - has gained a concerning foothold within the leadership ranks of the U.S. military in recent years. Here are some key examples and impacts highlighted in the sources: 1. Maj. Gen. Michael A. Teichert, a senior Air Force general, has been accused of actively promoting far-right Christian nationalist and dominionist views within the military ranks through his public writings and online platforms like his "Praying at Lunchtime for the United States" (PLUS) website [1,5]. - Teichert's writings espouse dominionist rhetoric about Christians being called to "subdue" America as "enemy-controlled territory" and establish a Christian nationalist order through "spiritual warfare" against opposing ideological forces [1]. - His activities are seen as violating the separation of church and state by using his senior leadership position to advance a narrow, exclusionary version of Christianity within the Air Force [1,5]. 2. The U.S. Air Force Academy has faced accusations of pushing dominionist Christian beliefs and practices onto personnel in violation of church-state separation principles [5]. 3. The rise of political figures like Ted Cruz, who was raised in "evangelicalism-with-a-theocratic-bent," represents the growing influence of dominionist ideology that seeks to implement Christian control over political and cultural institutions within the military's civilian leadership [3]. 4. Mikey Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation has warned that "dominionist thinking" is becoming widespread, especially in elite special forces units like the Navy SEALs, with the belief that the "tip of the spear" forces should advance a dominionist Christian agenda [5]. 5. The sources argue that while still a minority, dominionist beliefs fundamentally contradict democratic values like pluralism and pose a severe threat to civil liberties and American democratic traditions if allowed to proliferate unchecked within the military's ranks and leadership [1,2,3,5]. Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the U.S. as issued by President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. In 2021, it became our newest national holiday. The US National Archives offers perspective on why the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in January 1863, but it was not until two years later in June 1865 that the last Confederate community of enslaved Americans received word that they had been freed from bondage: “President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, as the nation approached its third year of bloody civil war. The proclamation declared ‘that all persons held as slaves’ within the rebellious states ‘are, and henceforward shall be free.’ “Despite this expansive wording, the Emancipation Proclamation was limited in many ways. It applied only to states that had seceded from the United States, leaving slavery untouched in the loyal border states. It also expressly exempted parts of the Confederacy (the Southern secessionist states) that had already come under Northern control. Most important, the freedom it promised depended upon Union (United States) military victory. “Although the Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery in the nation, it captured the hearts and imagination of millions of Americans and fundamentally transformed the character of the war. After January 1, 1863, every advance of federal troops expanded the domain of freedom. Moreover, the Proclamation announced the acceptance of Black men into the Union Army and Navy, enabling the liberated to become liberators. By the end of the war, almost 200,000 Black soldiers and sailors had fought for the Union and freedom.” Read more here: https://buff.ly/2tjvnhb

An Overview of Honor Killings in Afghanistan Abstract: In Afghanistan, a nation entrenched in internal conflicts for over four decades, the act of taking lives has tragically become routine and normalized. While warfare typically entails causalities at the hands of opposing forces, Afghanistan bears witness to a different horror-people being killed by their own family member and relatives which reaches hundreds annually. Honour killings a global issue transcending borders have deeply ingrained themselves in Afghan Society. The nation’s traditional and tribal fabric coupled with its distinct culture, places immense significance on honors and consequently honors killings. This article explores the multifaced factors and contextual backgrounds of honour killing in Afghanistan. https://lnkd.in/eQNSXsp2 DOI: 10.13140/RG.2.2.13763.17440 Mohammad Ibrahim Dariush Farzana Adell

As we observe Memorial Day, we are reminded of the profound sacrifices made by countless men and women in uniform who have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms. This day is not just a long weekend; it is a solemn tribute to the valor and dedication of our servicemembers who have paid the ultimate price for the values we hold dear. Their courage and commitment are at the heart of what many refer to as American Exceptionalism. This notion encompasses the idea that the United States, founded on principles of liberty, democracy, and equality, holds a unique place in history. It suggests that our country has a distinct role in advancing freedom and justice around the world. American Exceptionalism is not merely a boastful claim; it is a call to action. It compels us to uphold the ideals that our fallen heroes fought for, ensuring that their legacy lives on through our actions and policies. It challenges us to strive for excellence, to innovate, and to lead with integrity and compassion on the global stage. As we enjoy the freedoms and opportunities provided by living in this exceptional nation, let’s take a moment to honor those who made it possible. May we remember that the bedrock of our exceptionalism is built upon the sacrifices of those who served. #memorialday #armedforces #investing #insurance
