I think the EFF is way off-base here... https://lnkd.in/ebt-qMiq The bias creep in the article ignores some basic realities concerning TikTok: 1. It's "mission" is, um, supported by Xi's nation-state stance. 2. They ARE clearly in violation of privacy laws already in place. 3. TT has been found to weaseling around both of the above. 4. China is interested in poisoning the information well in the US. 5. The platform weaponizes its mindless, formless content against kids. TT has been found out - and they don't care. Hell, they provided posters to some of the dupes using their platform - shameless propaganda from folks who do not see the obvious threat it poses. File this under "if it's too good to be true..."

And I think Canadians and parents should be happy to see that we were ahead of the curve.”📈 Above quote and related posts in comments ⬇️ [Reuters excerpt below] The U.S. Department of Justice is preparing to file a consumer protection lawsuit against ByteDance's TikTok later this year on behalf of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Bloomberg News reported on Thursday. The justice department will not pursue allegations that TikTok misled U.S. consumers about their data security in the forthcoming suit, but will instead charge the company of children's privacy violations, the report said, citing people familiar with the decision. The department plans to drop one part of the complaint, which claims that TikTok deceived U.S. consumers by failing to inform them that China-based employees of its parent company would have access to their personal and financial information, according to the report. The DOJ, FTC and TikTok did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment. Earlier this week, Reuters reported that the FTC had referred to the DOJ a complaint against TikTok and its parent over potential violations of children's #privacy.
