Architect | Interior Designer | "Work in Progress" Entrepreneur 25+ projects | Design & Execution. Hustling to create the world I dream to live in. Living by the quote-You grow when everyone around you grows
A peek into a day of Interior Designer 7-7:30 am After a few snoozes,I woke up with some energy and enthusiasm to conquer the world. 8-9am The most peaceful time of the day and rather the most creatively productive part of my day. 9-10am Starting the day by calling all the vendors to make sure all the works planned for the day are on track. This is a follow up call so that just in case something is not happening according to plan, something else can be organised. Making a list of to-do things for the day with an order of priority, non negotiables and absolutely urgent tasks. 10:30-11:30am Realising that few vendors dint turn up,few did but cannot do the work planned to due the unforseen circumstances and no clearances and the rest of them are atleast doing what's planned. 12:00am to 2pm While handling the new problems for the day, trying to tick off the things in the to do list while constantly updating the list and adding on to the new ones. Getting the approvals from client, giving the approvals to the team and suddenly remembering the appointment I had given to another client. 2-3pm Lunch time with some conversation, some Instagram, some timepass and some energy filler for the rest half of the day. 3:30-5pm Finally getting back to some tasks which actually were planned for that day.Walking in and out of stores to finish the selections while trying to respond to some updates happening in the BFF groups. 5:30-7:30pm The fastest 2 hours of the day where work happens, sun light changes into a a beautiful skyscape and then becomes dark.Suddenly so much work seems to be completed but nothing according to what was planned or noted. 7:30-8:30pm Planning for the next day at site so that new,old and pending vendors appear the next day without having to literally fight with the universe. 9-11pm Activating the hustle mode by doing all the other freelance work which has to be completed. 11:30pm Hopefully asleep. And all the missing 30 mins in the above logs are literally those moments of the day which disappear and don't know how ? And in this timetable of a day are the everyday of an interior designer where it ranges from everything can go wrong and miracle can happen too .

Choosing the right interior designer for your project involves several steps to ensure a good fit and successful collaboration: 1. **Define Your Style and Needs**: Before searching for a designer, clarify your design preferences, budget, and the scope of your project. Determine if you prefer modern, traditional, eclectic, or other styles, and consider any specific requirements or challenges of your space. 2. **Research**: Look for interior designers whose portfolios align with your style and project requirements. You can find designers through online platforms, design magazines, social media, or referrals from friends and family. 3. **Review Portfolios and Credentials**: Take the time to review the portfolios of potential designers. Look for projects similar to yours in terms of style, scale, and budget. Also, check their credentials, certifications, and professional affiliations. 4. **Check References**: Request references from previous clients and follow up with them to inquire about their experience working with the designer. Ask about communication, project management, creativity, and overall satisfaction. 5. **Interview Multiple Designers**: Schedule consultations with several designers to discuss your project in detail. Pay attention to how well they listen to your needs, communicate their ideas, and address any concerns you may have. Consider their personality and professionalism, as you'll be working closely with them throughout the project. 6. **Clarify Fees and Contracts**: Understand the designer's fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, or percentage-based fees on the total project cost. Discuss payment schedules and any additional expenses. Review the contract carefully to ensure all terms and expectations are clearly defined. 7. **Trust Your Instincts**: Ultimately, trust your instincts when selecting an interior designer. Choose someone who not only has the skills and experience but also makes you feel comfortable and confident in their ability to bring your vision to life. By following these steps and conducting thorough research and interviews, you can increase the likelihood of finding the right interior designer for your project.

Some Essential Tips for Interior Designers when Crafting Your CV: Portfolio Link: Always include a direct link to your online portfolio, making it easy for potential employers or clients to view your work instantly. Project Types: Ensure your CV lists the specific types of projects you have worked on, grouping them into categories such as residential, commercial, hospitality, retail, etc. This makes it easier for employers to see your range of experience. Portfolio Organization: Group projects by category (e.g., residential, commercial, hospitality). For each project, include 3D renders, sketches, or technical drawings to visually demonstrate your design skills. You can also add before-and-after images to showcase the transformation you've achieved in your work. Scope of Design: Be specific about what aspects of the design you handled. For example, did you manage the full scope of the project, just the FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment), 3D modeling, or all of these aspects? Mention if you were involved in concept development, space planning, color palettes, material selection, or furniture placement. Role in the Project: Clarify if you were working as a consultant or contractor, and mention your responsibilities in each role. #interior_designers #CV_crafting #UAE #Fitout

While having coffee with a friend, he asked me, "How should I choose the right interior designer for my office or home?" After thinking it over for a moment, I shared some key points: * Align on Design Taste, Budget, and Timeline: Ensure the designer understands and agrees with your vision, budget, and project timeline, including their fees. * Request Detailed Drawings: Detailed drawings reflect the designer's thoroughness and attention to detail, even if you don't grasp all the technicalities. * Monitor Your Budget: Review the budget carefully after each design change. Proceed only when you have a clear understanding of expenses to avoid future misunderstandings. * Allow Material Selection Freedom: Trust the designer’s expertise in selecting materials. * Transparent Cost Insights: A good designer will clearly communicate any potential increases in costs. * Experience and Technical Knowledge: Look for a designer with at least 3-4 years of experience who can explain all material choices. * Coordination with Agencies: Full-scale interior projects often involve coordinating with multiple agencies. Ensure you and your designer are on the same page about managing these interactions. * Understand the Roles: Remember, a designer is not a contractor, and vice versa. After all, choosing the right designer isn't a matter of luck,it's a process.

When I was doing research to start Contrast I lost count of how many businesses I found that started a design career because people liked their ‘style’. They left their jobs as a realtor/content creator/insert non-design career here and now they have a design business with employees and a portfolio of projects that look just like their own house. Of course I support pursuing your passions. But, in contrast to advice that lists “find a designer who has a style you like” as step 1 in the process, I believe that a designers personal style should have absolutely nothing to do with your project. An interior designer balances building codes, function, and budget while also prioritizing you, the client’s, vision for the project. So if you ever ask me what my style is, be prepared for a long winded answer on a soap box. Because I’m glad people can pursue their passion for design but the job of an interior designer gets a bad reputation because people do not understand the education and training that should be going into this profession.
