A wild Dragon sighting!! 🐉 Dragon, our first patient of the year - rescued on March 19th and released on May 18th - was resighted in Seattle last week looking healthy on a floating dock near other harbor seals. Thank you to the folks at Vigor Shipyard for reporting this sighting, and for updating us on the harbor seals there. They’ve been keeping an eye out all summer for mom and pup pairs, to ensure the animals are protected in a human-used space, and it’s exciting to get photos of one of our past patients from them as well! #HarborSeal #MarineMammalRescue #WildlifeRehab

You all watched Seasquatch grow up… and now he's back in the wild! Seasquatch was separated from his mom because of human disturbance. Too young to survive on his own in the wild, he came to SR3 for care. After three months, he was able to return to the ocean. While we stand by to help animals like Seasquatch, it is always better to keep moms and pups together in the wild. How? Stay far away from marine mammals resting on beaches and keep your pets on a leash. Send a warm welcome to Jesse, who is joining the SR3 team as the Volunteer Coordinator and Development Assistant! Jesse has a background in youth development, experiential education, and nonprofit administration. As a Seattle local, he has worked for various nonprofits in King County - but also has experience as a naturalist/guide in Latin America and throughout the western US, including Alaska and Hawaii. Jesse is a nature nerd at heart, and is passionate about facilitating meaningful learning experiences, particularly around wildlife conservation. He will be working closely with all of our volunteers, and he’s excited to connect with the SR3 community and see our impact continue to grow!

Unicorn came to the Rescue Center in July after he was abandoned by his mom in northern Washington. Fast forward two months, and he’s now gaining weight, free feeding with other harbor seal pups, and even stealing fish from his pool-mates! Thanks to our Stranding Network partner, Whatcom Humane Society, for initially stabilizing Unicorn overnight before he was able to make it south to SR3. #HarborSeal #MarineMammalRescue #WildlifeRehab

Hippogriff, Kelpie and Gnome returned to the ocean yesterday! These three pups were cases of maternal abandonment, and were cared for at the Rescue Center for 2-3 months before they were able to return to the wild. Thanks to our Stranding Network partners and the communities where they were first sighted, these pups got a second chance!
