🚀 Exciting Insights: UK Fintech Investment Report H1 2023 by KPMG UK 🚀 KPMG recently published their latest Pulse of Fintech report. Total UK fintech investment dropped to £4.6 billion in the first half of 2023, down 57% from £10.8 billion in the same period in 2022. The sharp drop-off in fintech investment between H1’22 and H1’23 highlights the cloud of uncertainty permeating throughout the market which continues to wear on investor confidence. 215 UK M&A, PE and VC fintech deals were completed in H1 2023, down from 392 in H1 2022. Despite the fall in the total number of deals, the UK remains the centre of European fintech investment with British fintechs attracting more funding than their counterparts in the rest of EMEA combined. Our CEO & Co-founder, Sucharita Mukherjee, recently spoke at the Global SME Finance Forum on September 13th, and shared her insights in a breakout session to discuss ‘Ecosystems for Financial Inclusion’. The panel moderated by Alexander G. Sotiriou from the World Bank, also had noteworthy panelists like Carissa Reiniger from Small Biz Silver Lining, Andiswa Bata from FNB Bank, and Ravi Tyagi from SIDBI. The packed session saw case studies being discussed on collaborative SME ecosystems that have driven financial inclusion and brought the previously unbanked into the financial system. The session saw an engaging and insightful exchange of views between the speakers and attendees, which included various stakeholders such as Credit Guarantee Institutions, Commercial Banks, DFIs, impact investors and tech players. Sucharita outlined Kaleidofin’s experience in building models that not only offer innovative last-mile delivery of SME finance to micro and nano entrepreneurs but also address user drop-off at multiple points. Conversations and questions ranged from the role of government institutions, the interplay of traditional financial institutions, fintech players, and their experience in exploring alternate programs to serve informal segments and women-owned small businesses.
