In a recent talk with the media, the captain of Pakistan's cricket team was asked why he chose to bowl first again after losing two games when bowling second. Shaheen revealed that he didn't check the pitch but looked at stats showing that teams bowling second tend to win more at that venue. This situation raises an important question in making strategic decisions: should teams only rely on stats or consider on-field conditions too (A mix of both)? Finding the right balance between statistical analysis and real-time assessment is crucial. It ensures a flexible approach that adjusts to both historical data and the changing nature of the game. This mix of insights can help teams make smart decisions, improving their chances of success on the cricket field. #cricketstrategy #decisionmaking #sportsanalysis

This is why the field of cricket analytics needs to evolve 🏏📊 We still look at data in silos. We've been too focused on batting averages and strike rates. This makes mediocre players look great. ❌ What we should be looking at is the complete Batting Score (BS) which incorporates the following factors: ✅ Batting average (Avg): The total number of runs they've scored divided by the total number of times they've been out. ✅ Strike rate (SR): The average number of runs scored per 100 balls faced. ✅ Consistency (C): A measure of how consistently a player performs. This could be measured as the standard deviation of their scores, with a lower value indicating more consistency. ✅ Experience (E): The total number of matches played. ✅ Form (F): Recent performance, such as average runs scored in the last five matches. ✅ Opposition Quality Factor (OQF): This is higher for stronger opposition and lower for weaker opposition. ✅ Finisher Impact Score (FIS): Ability to finish and win matches Here's what the complete batting score should look like: 👉 BS=((Avg×SR×F)/(C*E))×OQF×FIS We need to look at the entire canvas of a player’s performance, considering how they fare under pressure, in crucial match-finishing moments, and against varying levels of opposition. #CricketAnalytics #DataAnalysis #SportsAnalytics
