💉Cortisone Injection for Tennis Elbow - What you need to know! 📌 Treatment options for tennis elbow usually include cortisone injections, physical therapy, or a wait-and-see approach. While cortisone injections were previously believed to provide short-term relief by reducing acute inflammation, recent studies have shown that they may not be the best long-term solution. 📚 According to research, physical therapy and a watchful waiting approach have demonstrated better long-term outcomes, with a higher percentage of patients being pain-free even after one year. 🔍 Several factors contribute to the poor long-term outcome of cortisone injections. It’s possible that patients experience pain relief and then resume activities that initially caused the injury, leading to a recurrence of symptoms. Furthermore, cortisone injections might impair tendon healing. 🧐 It’s crucial to consider the risks and benefits of cortisone injections on a case-by-case basis. Engaging in physical therapy alongside the injections can help strengthen the wrist extensor muscles and address any weaknesses in the shoulder and scapular muscles, reducing overcompensation in the wrist tendons. 🌟 Remember, the pain relief experienced after a cortisone injection is temporary and doesn’t indicate complete healing. Gradually returning to activities and focusing on exercises that strengthen the wrist extensor muscles is crucial for long-term recovery. ⚠️ Keep in mind that cortisone injections can lead to skin discoloration and tissue thinning around the injection site. Additionally, there is a slight risk of bleeding and infection associated with the injection process.
