I have recently prepared a historical investment analysis on larsen and Toubro (L&T) one of India's largest conglomerates, here are some of the key findings of my analysis. ➡️Share Price Evolution: Over the past decade, L&T's share price showed significant fluctuations, reflecting both market conditions and company performance. From ₹1,156.15 in 2015, the share price dipped to ₹774.55 in 2020 but has since rallied impressively to reach ₹3,838 in 2024, indicating a substantial recovery. ➡️Growth Performance: The growth percentage has been volatile from 2015-2024, L&T demonstrated resilience, rebounding with a remarkable 77% growth in 2023-24 ➡️Investment Returns: An initial investment of ₹175,000 in 2015 would have grown to ₹5,180,830 by 2024, showcasing the power of compounding over long term. ➡️Return on Earnings: Despite some periods of negative returns, L&T has consistently worked towards enhancing shareholder value, achieving a return on asset of 196% in 2024. Long back there was (and is still) Larsen & Toubro, one of the earliest examples of how a professionally managed company with no single promoter can thrive and turn in consistently good performance. Larsen & Toubro achieved Consolidated Revenues of ₹ 221,113 crore for the year ended March 31, 2024, recording a healthy y-o-y growth of 21%, facilitated by a strong execution of a large order book in the Projects & Manufacturing businesses. International revenues during the year at ₹ 95,086 crore constituted 43% of the total revenues largely led by a ramp-up in execution of multiple international projects. For the quarter ended March 31, 2024, the Consolidated Revenues at ₹ 67,079 crore recorded a y-o-y growth of 15%. The share of international revenues during the quarter was 45%. The Company for the year ended March 31, 2024, posted a Consolidated Profit After Tax (PAT) of ₹ 13,059 crore, registering a robust growth of 25% compared to the previous year. The PAT includes an exceptional gain (net of tax) of ₹ 94 crore, attributed to the divestment of a stake in L&T IDPL (L&T Infrastructure Development Projects Limited). For the quarter ended March 31, 2024, the PAT at ₹ 4,396 crore, registered a growth of 10% y-o-y basis. The Board of Directors has recommended a final dividend of ₹ 28 per equity share. Exclusive News About Larson & Toubro's New Initiative! L&T fell more than 5% after the Mgmt gave a much lower-than-expected margin guidance of 8.25%. L&T commented that the 9-9.5% margin they reported earlier has changed as the order book composition has changed. International orders are now 40% of the order book vs 20% earlier. International orders have a lower EBITDA margin than Indian orders but the working capital terms are much better. Earlier, when L&T reported higher margins, the working capital intensity was very high at almost 18 per cent of revenue. With the current EBITDA margin of 8.2 per cent for FY 24, the working capital intensity is only 12 per cent - a sharp decline from 18 per cent. This has gone unnoticed. L&T is deploying fewer resources to earn higher profits. Basically, better capital efficiency and higher return ratios. L&T’s ROE is already at 15% in FY24 from 10% in FY21 and they have a target of 18% ROE by FY26. This is the new L&T! LTIMindtree Ltd, India's sixth-largest information technology company, is likely to post slight sequential contraction in earnings for Jan-Mar due to pricing pressure and extended furloughs in key verticals. Unlike its larger peers such as Tata Consultancy Services Ltd and Infosys Ltd, which reported earnings growth from the previous quarter, LTIMindtree is likely to report a fall in both revenue and net profit, though year-on-year these figures may grow over 3% each.
