Our transformation towards emission free steel production is going on🌱🌱

If Coolbrook can achieve 1700C from their dynamic heater this is a major breakthrough for hard to decarbonise processes. Generally Nichrome electric heaters get expensive above about 900C with shorter lives and more material needed - above 1100C you tend to switch to SiC and then above 1400C you use MoSi2 elements. The other problem Coolbrook avoid is that with high temperature electric elements you have to get the electrical power to the element - this is surprisingly difficult as most good conductors won’t work at high temperatures and becomes even harder if the flow to be heated is pressurised.

The World Economic Forum and First Movers Coalition selected Coolbrook's revolutionary RotoDynamic Technology as the top-ranking furnace technology to enable Near-Zero steel by 2030. We can cut CO2 emissions by a whopping 2.4 billion tons annually of which an estimated 600 million tons in steel industry alone. Now the official video is out - pretty cool, huh? "Coolbrook (Finland) provided the highest-ranked furnace technology submission. Their RotoDynamic Technology is designed to generate high-temperature process heat up to 1,700 degrees Celsius. It is powered by electrification, removing the need to burn fossil fuels to create high temperatures. The Near-Zero Steel 2030 Challenge might be a start, but if the economics don't add up, adoption will stall. Also, what about the lifecycle emissions from this new tech?
