After planting the seeds of change during the 1990’s, and codifying Coppell’s cornerstone in the late 2000’s, the City of Coppell took its next step in creating a lasting culture of belonging with the adoption of the “4C’s” concept in 2012: Cultivating Coppell’s Core Competencies. Using the “Law of the Harvest”, a team of departmental directors worked together to create the City’s 4C Guide, which describes Coppell’s Core Competencies. The Guide lays out hiring and promotion concepts, training and development resources offered by the city, an outline of the City’s success academy, an overview of performance and development expectations, and describes the ties between job descriptions and career ladders. Through the years, these competencies have been further refined. Using John Dickson’s definition from his book 𝐻𝑢𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑠, the “Humble” competency was added to the Human Competency Group in 2013. 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀, 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳. The Core Competencies provide every team member with a clear picture of the organization’s service expectations, which are centered on Technical, Human, and Conceptual competencies appropriately applied for their respective role in the City.

“Straight Six Stu” – A True Legend on Site 👷🏼♂️ Every site has its heroes, and for us, one of the most remarkable is Stuart – or as we all affectionately call him, Straight Six Stuart. Stuart has an unmatched record, consistently achieving the highest NHBC mark of 6 on all his stage inspections. It’s not just a nickname; it’s a testament to his incredible knowledge, dedication, and commitment. He sets the bar high, and we’re all the better for it - “Anything Stu doesn’t know, ain’t worth knowing!” 🏆 What really sets Stuart apart is his energy that bounces off the entire site. His positivity when things get tough and sense drive make him a joy to work with. 🫡 Recently, Stuart’s hard work and leadership were rightfully recognised when he was made up to a ‘Black Hat’ by his managers at Roadform. It was a truely awesome moment, made even more memorable as the entire site gathered to give him a well-deserved round of applause. That collective show of appreciation speaks volumes about the impact Stuart has on everyone he works with. 🤝 Stuart, your knowledge and passion inspires me every day. You play a huge role in ensuring our Groundworks are completed to the highest standard, and your contributions don’t just build homes – they build pride in our work.
