Today we share Anne Wilson’s enlightening conversation with Professor David Putrino. We need dedicated research on bedbound patients – so often they are excluded from research because it is viewed as "too hard" to involve them, which is not the case. Making reasonable accommodations for bed- and house-bound patients to participate in research is, in fact, good and ethical research practice. In addition, we need comprehensive educational resources to share the knowledge of some of the physicians and clinicians who have experience in treating these patients, so that more clinicians can come to understand how to manage the care of these individuals. Too many patients living in this situation are viewed as "too difficult" and many clinicians don't even know where to begin. Skilled education can help here and can provide many clinicians with a roadmap of ways to improve quality of life for these individuals who are living in very tough conditions. Clinical Medicine is the study and practice of medicine that is founded on the direct scrutiny of patients. It is one of the areas in the medical field/health system that primarily deals with the practice and study of medicine based on the direct examination of the patient. This is in contrast to other science fields that focus more on the theoretical and basics of medical science. In clinical medicine, medical practitioners assess patients in order to diagnose, treat, and prevent disease. Community health is a major field of study and practice within the medical and clinical sciences that focuses on the maintenance, protection, and improvement of the health status of population groups and communities. It is a branch of public health that focuses on people and their role as determinants of their own and other people’s health. A combination of the two gives rise to comprehensive community/public tailored health service delivery. By: Alex Kachwano.

Physicians for Informed Consent recently admitted to accepting medical information published in the literature as fact, without applying critical appraisal methods. This is concerning, as a significant percentage of published articles do not meet minimum quality standards. It's crucial to remember the value of evidence-based medicine and the importance of applying critical appraisal methods. Want to learn more about evidence-based practice?
