Weekly Meet and Smile. It has been a habit for my team to have a weekly online meeting. A difference compared to last week is now less people in, more and More focus on individual growths. After handing over six outlets Johor to the new area manager, now it has become less people here.🤜🤛 a weekly meeting with managers from Melaka and Johor to show their restaurant performance and discuss any issue they're facing. the main task is keep realign back to ensure they understand and move together to achieve target and KPIs by company. Coming together is the beginning, keeping together is the process, Working together is a success. 💪

The phrase "cross-functional collaboration" is commonplace in most commercial entities, often being the "buzzword/phrase" that is spewed ever so rampantly with the goal of rallying troops within organizations...but more often than not, backfires and instead becomes the butt of jokes within the grapevine. Eg. "Cross-functional my ass.. the top also not aligned, and they expect this cross-functional nonsense.." All too familiar? Repetition of catchphrases and buzzwords mean nothing without leaders walking the talk, without consciously embedding and implementing this in our day-to-day work lives. As cliche as it may sound, I am proud to say that here at Heineken Malaysia, we do not just call ourselves a One Strong Winning Team for the sake of portraying an illusionary positive culture. Here at Heineken Malaysia, we truly embrace differences, champion authenticity and come together as a united entity, focused on common goals; Winning vs the Competition and Brewing the Joy of True Togetherness. 9-10 March 2024 | Avillion Resort PD My last team building before the Ramadhan period was for BonCafé 🤎 I love this as a finale because this is such an inspiring organization. Their bond transcends organisational structure. They’re more like a family of different races, function and from different location across Malaysia. Many team members have been with the organization for 10-20 years. It’s not uncommon for employees to have started as Technicians to become Branch Managers taking care of regions like East Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak), North Peninsula (Penang & upwards), Klang Valley Southward & Eastward. To be honest, team building is just a springboard that propels change. More significantly is what drives from the top. That sets the tone of how things should be run. I think I know that very well having been in the corporate world for more than 2 decades. In this company, that is more plausible than most. This is my 2nd time leading the team building for BonCafé. Last year we did it in Sunway Lagoon. I get a lot of grief from a lot of people, some of it very hostile, when I point out flaws in events or experiences that have a negative impact on the #Malaysia nation #brand. Many of them take it personally, as if I have a hidden agenda. For the record, I don't. I do it for a number of reasons. Mainly because if if all you hear is good news, you start to believe that everything is fine and that nothing needs fixing. Then when you realise it isn't, it's often too late. I also do it because building a successful brand involves multiple stakeholders. Especially a #nationbrand. #Nationbranding is a bit like formula one. Hundreds of key components need to be working perfectly together for a car to win a race. If one small part isn't insync with the others, you won't even finish the race, let alone win it. Over the last week, like millions of Malaysians and many international visitors, I've flown in and out of #klia to domestic destinations. At this time of the year, KLIA is, in many ways the front line of the Malaysia nation brand building process. Porters, airline staff, baggage handlers, security, PDRM, retailers, sales staff and many others are all representatives of the Malaysia brand. It's important for Malaysians to see that these critical actors in the nation branding process are doing their part in delivering on the promises made by the government with #Malaysiamadani. So anyway, back to my reflections on the holiday season experience. Over the years, the experience has been underwhelming, with longer than necessary queues at checkin counters and not enough lanes at the security area tucked away in the corner. This year, the whole process was about as smooth and efficient as it could be. Airlines had more checkin staff manning the counters. The security process, while still a national embarrassment due to the cheap equipment (think trays that are too small and rollers that don't roll) was manned by personnel who were doing their best to safeguard national security while ensuring a stress free experience. They've also added extra lanes to reduce the bottleneck. For me it was a stress free 'balik kampung'. The first in a long time.... So a big thank you to all those who worked at KLIA during the holidays, especially those who sacrificed time during their most important holiday of the year to make sure the rest of us could travel.
