In this casual, yet insightful interview, Arjun sheds light on some key decisions that caused this U-turn for Byjus. I think there are a couple of key insights that people in Ed-tech are missing out. 1. Education/Ed-tech is not a product business, it is a service business. Noone can sell an Ed-tech product and quit on the customer. Post sale service and follow up is essential to stay on the good books of the customer. This is where Byjus missed out. Tons of bad reviews from dissatistied parents is a key contributor to the downfall of the company. 2. No matter how engaging, entertaining, and awesome the product or classes are, most students specially in the K-8 segment will lose interest unless there is a human intervening. That is why Ed-tech can never replace or even be a substitute for human led learning. It can only support it. These are the two main reasons that I think Ed-tech companies, no matter how awesome the product is, or how visionary the leadership is, or how large the market is, cannot grow beyond a certain point. #Edtech #Byjus #Startuplife #learning
