📉 Yet, current climate models show that global crop production will decline every decade for the rest of this century due to drought, heat, and flooding. Water supplies are in jeopardy. Meanwhile, the world's population is expected to grow another 30 per cent by the midcentury. So, how, really, will we feed nine billion people sustainably in the coming decades? 📖 Through her interviews and adventures with farmers, scientists, activists, and engineers, Amanda Little, a professor at Vanderbilt University and an award-winning journalist, tells the fascinating story of human innovation and explores new and old approaches to food production while charting the growth of a movement that could redefine sustainable food on a grand scale. A truly interesting read whether you are interested in food tech or not. #SSPVCapital #SundayVesting #YourImpactVenture

Your coffee, olive oil and chocolate are getting more and more expensive, right? This is one of the main challenges of our times: extreme weather events linked to climate change and its impact on agricultural yelds. On September 25th, IDH, together with The Consumer Goods Forum and the Forest Positive Coalition, is hosting an event to address climate-disrupted agriculture. If you're going to New York for #ClimateWeek, join us in this discussion on climate-resilient solutions and how stakeholders can collaborate to implement them. Register link and more information in comments!
For decades, global agricultural productivity has been growing. But for the first time, that steady growth trend seems to be ending. The culprit? Climate change. Extreme weather events linked to climate change are taking a toll on agricultural yields, particularly in the global south. Declining yields, in turn, squeeze supplies and drive up prices. The results are lower incomes for farmers and higher risks for companies. If we want to build future-proof food systems, we need to rethink how we farm. Climate change is indeed redefining agriculture, especially in the global south, where communities are already feeling the brunt of these impacts. The upcoming event is a vital step toward addressing these challenges head-on. The goal is to foster cross-sector collaboration, drive forward innovative, climate-resilient farming solutions, and ensure a more equitable and sustainable food system for all. We encourage stakeholders across industries to join us in rethinking and reshaping agricultural practices for a more resilient and sustainable future.

Agribusiness Enthusiast: With a profound love for agriculture, I've always believed that it holds the key to addressing some of the world's most pressing challenges, from food security to environmental sustainability.
Embracing the future of Agriculture. As I delve into the world of advanced agriculture in class today, the urgency of addressing food security and climate change becomes crystal clear. By 2050, we must amplify food production by 60% to nourish a growing global population. This isn't just a challenge; it's an opportunity for the youth to redefine the narrative! Let's make agriculture the cornerstone of our journey towards a sustainable future. Today, I call on my peers to join this vital mission. It's time to turn classrooms into fields of innovation and cultivate solutions that transcend borders. Together, let's grow a future where no one goes hungry, and our planet thrives. #FoodSecurity #ClimateAction #YouthInAg #SustainableFuture

🌱 Adapting Agriculture to the Changing Seasons 🌍🚜 🔄 Shifting Seasons, Shifting Strategies: Climate change is altering the familiar pattern of agricultural seasons. Farmers around the world are changing their strategies, readjusting planting seasons, and reconsidering old techniques. ⏰ Precision Timing is Paramount: As growth seasons become less predictable, timing becomes more important. Farmers are adopting innovative and data-driven ways to keep ahead of the shifting seasons and maximise output. 🌦️ Navigating Unpredictability: Extreme weather occurrences have become part of the seasonal narrative. From sudden frosts to prolonged heatwaves, farmers are adopting resilience techniques and researching climate-resilient crops. 🌐 Global Collaboration for Solutions: Addressing these shifts demands a concerted effort. Farmers, scientists, and policymakers around the world must work together to create adaptive solutions for a sustainable and resilient agricultural future. 🚀 A Future of Adaptation and Innovation: Agriculture is adapting to accommodate altering growing seasons. We can create a future in which farming flourishes despite changing climates by embracing change, encouraging innovation, and collaborating. 🌾💡 #GrowingSeasons #Adaptation #InnovationInAg #ClimateResilience

#PlanetaryBoundaries are being crossed—and our food system is at the heart of it. It’s time we rethink the way we grow, produce, and consume. Johan Rockström, the scientist behind the planetary boundaries framework, emphasizes: “Global food production threatens climate stability and ecosystem resilience. It constitutes the single largest driver of environmental degradation and transgression of planetary boundaries.” Almost half of all global food production currently depends on practices that exceed planetary boundaries. Agriculture takes up 40% of the Earth’s land and uses over 70% of our freshwater. Its current practices like excessive use of fertilizers are disrupting natural nutrient cycles, driving the planet toward irreversible damage, causing biodiversity loss and water depletion. The science is sufficient and strong enough and the message is clear: local actions impact the planet, and a planet under pressure can impact everyone, everywhere. It’s our time to listen and act. "As the Founding Member of the Company, the most rewarding moment is hearing a farmer say, 'Just because of this product, I’m able to grow my crop in these adverse climate conditions.' This is the real happiness for me. When we started this company, our goal was simple: if we could solve even one farmer’s problem, it would be a huge success. Today, we are proud to be transforming the lives of thousands of farmers globally. 🌱 #SustainableAgriculture #FarmerFirst #ClimateResilience #EFPolymer #Impact #Innovation"

Can we feed 8, 9, or 10 billion people in a warmer world? The pace of change is accelerating, with forecasts that used to take decades now unfolding rapidly. Exploring the future of the food industry through stress testing scenarios is crucial. Recently, I delved into a thought-provoking study on the impact of climate change on crop yields in the future, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities ahead. It is not so bad overall. But resembles Interstellar movie. #ClimateChange #Agriculture #Finance #Sustainability #Investment Read more: https://lnkd.in/dRe6rsFr

Wherever you are in the world, you've no doubt experienced extreme weather events in recent months. In fact, nearly half the global population – some 3.6 billion people – is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, from droughts, floods and storms to heat stress and food insecurity. In a first-of-its-kind report, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, we shed light on the pressing need for more adaptation funding but also the wealth of opportunities for private investment in climate adaptation within the agriculture sectors of emerging markets, focusing on the pivotal role of the world's 500m smallholder farmers who produce one-third of the world's food. It was a complex process to find climate adaptation deals among AgFunder’s dataset - and even more so those that are relevant to smallholder farmers; oftentimes, innovators do not even realise they're working on climate adaptation. Tech is also just one part of the solution - the report highlights many low-tech initiatives outside of our dataset where diverse forms of capital can and are playing a role. Our new report with ISF Advisors includes: - Spotlights types of capital needed for tech & non-tech climate adaption initiatives - Highlights where investment activity is happening - Pinpoints six key agrifood adaptation investment opportunities Loved working with Sarah Devermann, Dan Zook, Jyoti Shankar Nayak, Jessica Pothering and Matthew Newman on this!
