Networking and Connections are import when you are transitioning from military service into the civilian world. Can, you convince a potential employer to target you in 30 seconds? Workshop: The 30-Second Commercial. Wed, Jun 26 from 2:00-3:00 PM ET. Register: https://lnkd.in/eqdSakuZ. A familiar, well-crafted 30-second commercial is an important tool to have in your career transition toolkit. It’s "YOU marketing YOU" as you share your who, what, and how in 30 to 60 seconds -- or about the time it takes to ride from the top to the bottom of a building in an elevator. Hence, the "elevator pitch." Join Capt. Pat L. Williams, USN (Ret), MOAA’s program director for engagement and career transition services, and learn how to craft and hone your elevator pitch. This workshop includes key transition guidance and tools, practical writing tips for your 30-second commercial, and the opportunity to ask questions. It doesn’t matter whether you’re leaving the military, remaining in a current job, or simply enjoying a relaxed life, you should always have a succinct response ready for "What do you do?" or "What are your plans?" or similar questions. Whether you're a networking novice or a well-seasoned salesperson, this workshop offers something for everyone. #veteranjobs #veteranstrong #transitioningservicemembers #militaryfriendly #militaryspouseemployment #militaryspouse #navyspouses #navyspouse #armyspouses #armyspouse #airforcespouses #airforcespouse #coastguardspouses #coastguardspouse #marinecorpsspouses #marinecorpsspouse #USMCveteran #transitioningnavy #transitioningarmy #transitioningUSMC #transitioningairforce #transitioningcoastguard #armyveteran #navyveteran #changeofmmission #militaryjobfair #militaryexperience #hiremilitary Tyrone Hewitt Shawn T. This is a great breakdown of how to adjust the job hunt to maximize your opportunity for the career you want. It took me a long time to understand these valuable recommendations, in fact, it never hit home for me until I was looking for that perfect candidate as a hiring manager. 1. Yes, networking is huge! I've had individuals reach out in person, through email/text, or even a reference from a friend to express interest. There will most likely be others who have the same qualifications, if not exceed the value of your resume. However, bringing someone on the team who is trusted, respected, and wanting to grow is an individual that I look for in a potential coworker. 2. This is a major turn off. When I read a cover letter that is obviously a template, I immediately question the intentions. I typically give grace because I've been in a spot where I just needed a job to support my family. But, those who are too lazy to change a resume based on the specific job they want tend to be tough to work with. Focus on the job you want. Focus for those 20 minutes to personalize your application. And even though you know your resume inside and out, have someone look it over. 3. This is the toughest part for me. I was brought up to be humble. Which means I don't like to talk about myself. I know there have been times in my working career that I didn't get a job or a promotion because of my lack to market myself. However, this can make or break your chance at landing the gig. Be confident, speak on the impact you've made, and just be you. If you qualify for the job, and you want it, go get it! #YouBelongHere #BJCCareers #Hiring

"I send out 100 applications a week... I don't know what I'm doing wrong. No body wants to hire veterans" I know what you're doing wrong. You're sending out 100 applications a week... While you're wasting paper and other people's time I can tell you what you aren't doing right too. 1. You Aren't Networking. Every resume should have a target and that target should have a name... not the name of a company... a human name! If you don't know and have spoken to someone that works for the employer... you aren't networking hard enough. 2. You Aren't Targeting. It takes a polished pro about 15-20 minutes to tailor their resume for a particular opportunity. One resume=one job. If you are using the same resume for more than one employer then you're resumes aren't tailored and they are probably going in the trash. 3. You Aren't Marketing Yourself. You are right about one thing, nobody wants to hire veterans. Why? Because there is no such job as "veteran". "What do you do for work Paul?" "I veteran... I've been veteraning all week. Veteraning is up 20% this quarter". Employers are hiring program managers, project coordinators, production supervisors, human resource manager, account executives and so forth. Stop leaning on what you USED to do and market who you ARE! Need help? Come see us at RecruitMilitary. We have employers, career opportunities, resources, webinars, video content, job fairs and much more. www.recruitmilitary.com #transitioningservciemembers #recruitmilitary #hiring #veteranemployment

Are you a change resistor? Do you cling to the past? Are you warm and secure in the blanket of the status quo? It's amazing how many people I have to actually CONVINCE that networking is time well spent. It's like trying to convince a fish that water is good. But in 20 years of military service we never found networking to be "a thing"... only hard work, dedication, sacrifice and discipline. But these days, you must be networked! Job fairs, networking events, LinkedIn... these are not "nice to do" things. These are vital to your success! So with confronted with the reality that you need to adapt to a new mode of successful career navigation... will you adapt? Or will you cling to the past while the early adopters out there start doing laps around you? What adaptations and evolutions have you made to advance your career? Are you a veteran or transitioning servicemember in search of a meaningful career? Visit us at www.recruitmilitary.com to start your next career. Jobs, resources, resume webinars, employment skills classes, skillbridge opportunities. Come on by and take a knee. We've got your 6.
