Oklahoma Native American Veterans go from homeless to housed. How VA is addressing barriers for Native American Veterans. The words “homeless” and “Veteran” should not exist together, and ensuring Veterans have access to services that can help them with homelessness is amongst VA’s top priorities. Homelessness among Native American Veterans is of special focus for VA as Native Americans serve in the military at higher rates than other subpopulations of Americans. But part of accessing these services is being aware of them. It’s crucial for VA to make Veterans aware of the services they have access to, particularly when it comes to VA’s homeless assistance resources.  This month is National Native American Heritage Month which acknowledges the history and critical contributions of Native people along with Native American Heritage Day (November 24) when their rich culture, accomplishments and heritage are honored and celebrated. In honor of that, we’re proud to spotlight our video series From Homeless to Housed: Stories From Native American Veterans Assisted Through VA. People's lives have been changing for the better. Washington State has less than 30,000 homeless in the state. We must ensure these lives are uplifted within our own motivational goals achieved with the help of leaders and corporations. Giving second chances and opportunities to those seeking to rebuild their lives. Creating high net worth tax payers and civil service citizens. From homeless hopeless abandoned lives. With hopes and dreams of today's triumphs. I believe wholeheartedly we can and will treasure each talent and gifts instilled in these lives. For a better outcome then just able to live in affordable housing. Instead able to build homes buy businesses and create what ever their talents led them to do. On any given night, an average of 35,000 veterans experience homelessness across the country. We are committed to helping find safe and affordable housing for our nation’s heroes: https://lnkd.in/eZn3TxMA Through a new $9 million investment, we will work with local and national nonprofit partners to: ⚒️ Build or rehab more than 500 units to provide new affordable housing for veterans 🏡 Find and secure existing housing for an additional 3,000 homeless veterans 💰 Fund landlord incentive programs, a crucial initiative in overcoming the barriers faced by at-risk and homeless veterans in finding sustainable housing 📖 Support essential research, studies and training on aging, rural, low-income and disabled veterans, as well as housing trends and specific housing needs

OWASP® Foundation OWASP Algiers Chapter Hackers for Charity Non-Profit List Objective: Identify regional non-profits in Morris County, NJ to contact to conduct training on how to find website software bugs & flaws and fix them. Criteria: Must be a regional non-profit in Morris County, NJ. Should be a legitimate 501c3 organization registered with the NJ Dept. of Consumer Affairs, Charity Navigator or GuideStar. Must have a website to test. Should have a low bureaucratic barrier to entry in order to avoid time-consuming multi-layered approval process. Consider locally hosted site in order to avoid third party issues (e.g., cloud providers) Consider veterans, food insecurity, health & human services, animal rescue & other organizations based on feedback from Team. Next Steps: Obtain approval on suggested non-profits from Team. Review/finalize letter to non-profits about Hackers for Charity. Hear about a NEW partnership between the Port of Skagit to get firewood to lower-income seniors and veterans, and special Veterans Day service project to keep those who served warm this winter. Produced by researchers at the University of York, The Roadmap to End Homelessness Amongst Veterans, provides a blueprint to ensure current and future generations of veterans have the skills and support required to avoid homelessness and establish a long-term sustainable home. The research highlights that some veterans, particularly those who join and leave the Service at a young age, are not well enough prepared to find and maintain a home after their time in the Armed Forces. The report, which has been funded by the Forces in Mind Trust and supported by the Riverside Group and Cobseo, the Confederation of Service Charities, says that large-scale reforms are needed to tackle the issue. The government have created a dedicated referral pathway for support for veterans experiencing homelessness in 2023 but this report clearly sets out the preventative actions which should be taken to help ex-Service personnel avoid reaching a point of crisis in the first place. The report is based on first hand interviews with a range of Service personnel, veterans, and other military stakeholders. It sets out how the Ministry of Defence, the Office for Veterans Affairs, local authorities, and housing providers can work together to prevent veteran homelessness in the first place and provide support in life after Service.
