Happy #Pride month! 🥳❤🏠🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ "All are welcome. Walls. Our mission is to raise them so a family can find comfort, security, an affordable place to call home. Walls. Our ethos is to remove them so that all can feel welcome, visible, respected, supported and valued. Whether on a work site or in the workplace, we are committed to removing the visible and invisible barriers to opportunity and self-expression — barriers that limit a person, a family or an employee from reaching their full potential. Wherever you find us, we stand tireless in our commitment to foster a culture where diversity, equity and inclusion are core to our thinking, strategies and actions." -https://lnkd.in/gFkjGpuu

In a world that's rich with diverse cultures, perspectives, and experiences, our workplaces should reflect that same beautiful mosaic. Diversity and affirmative action aren't just buzzwords—they are the pillars of a thriving, innovative, and compassionate work environment. When we embrace diversity, we spark innovation, foster empathy, and enhance performance. Various researches have proved that teams that celebrate diversity often outperform those that don’t. But beyond policies and programs, it’s our collective commitment that makes a real difference. It’s the conscious effort to listen, unlearn, learn, and grow together. It’s about creating spaces where everyone feels safe, valued and heard.

In a recent speech commemorating Juneteenth, I wanted to connect the spirit of freedom and progress to a vital topic for our workplaces: the difference between diversity and inclusion. Vernā Myers, perfectly captured this sentiment when she said, "Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance." Imagine your workplace as a dance floor. Diversity is ensuring everyone's invited to the party – a beautiful mosaic of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. But inclusion? That's making sure everyone feels welcome to join the dance. It's about fostering an environment where every individual feels valued, heard, and empowered to contribute their unique steps to the company's rhythm. As we reflect on Juneteenth's legacy, let's ask ourselves: How do we create workplaces where everyone feels comfortable stepping onto the dance floor? Where the music of collaboration and innovation is fueled by diverse voices? Share your thoughts and experiences below. Let's build on this historic moment to create truly inclusive cultures for the future. #Juneteenth #diversityandinclusion #leadership #corporateculture #workplaceculture

Reflecting on Diversity and Strengths In our journeys, both personal and professional, it's vital to remember the wise words of Stuart Duncan: "Nobody thinks less of the penguin because it cannot fly. It's simply a different kind of bird. Different. Not less." This quote is a powerful reminder that our unique abilities and differences are not shortcomings, but rather distinctions that set us apart. The penguin, a creature incapable of flight, excels in ways that other birds cannot, thriving in environments they dare not enter. As we navigate the diverse landscapes of our workplaces and communities, let's not undervalue ourselves or others based on what we cannot do. Instead, let's celebrate the varied talents each person brings to the table. Embrace diversity, encourage inclusivity, and empower every individual to share their unique contributions. Let's strive to see the unique strengths in everyone, much like we admire the penguin for its prowess in the water, not its inability to soar through the skies. #DiversityAndInclusion #StrengthsBased #Empowerment #InspirationalQuotes

"For after all, the best thing one can do when it is raining is let it rain." 🌧️ In our journey towards fostering environments of emotional intelligence and inclusivity, this timeless wisdom reminds us of the power of acceptance and resilience. Just as we cannot control the rain, we often cannot control the myriad of backgrounds, experiences, and emotions that walk into our workplaces and communities. However, what we can do is create a culture where all aspects of diversity are acknowledged, respected, and embraced. Where every "raindrop" – each unique perspective and identity – enriches the collective ocean of our shared human experience. By practicing emotional intelligence, we learn to navigate the storms of misunderstanding and bias with grace and empathy. We learn that letting it rain doesn't mean passivity; it means actively creating spaces where every individual can flourish, regardless of the weather outside. Let's commit to building bridges of understanding and support, making our communities beacons of inclusivity and kindness. Because when we let it rain and appreciate the beauty in the diversity of the downpour, we all grow stronger together. #EmotionalIntelligence #Inclusivity #DiversityAndInclusion #Empathy #Resilience

March's topic: Diversity & Inclusion ******* 3: Integrating Cultural Wisdom Last year, we took a 365 journey together, exploring Ancient wisdom, learning how, across the globe, our ancestors approached life. Reflecting on human history, it’s clear that every culture brings something special to the table. Today, as we are merging these rich histories into our global workplaces, we’re reconnecting with age-old wisdom that teaches us better ways to live and work together. It’s like opening a book that has waited for ages to be read, full of stories that remind us how to be kinder, more understanding, and genuinely connected to one another. ******* Let’s make a pledge, dear Green Heart Warriors, to not just coexist but to truly understand and celebrate what each unique background brings to our collective workplace. And remember, despite our diverse traditions and practices, deep down, we’re all driven by the same desires - to belong, to be understood, and to be appreciated for who we truly are. Stay well.

November is National Native American Heritage Month, and November 25th is National Native American Heritage Day! This is a time to honor and celebrate the many Indigenous communities in this nation and to uplift their histories and stories in both our communities and workplaces. How are you recognizing this important month at your organization? Does your company have an Employee Resource Group for people who identify as First Nations, Indigenous, Native or something else? How is your organization establishing a connection with this community and building a relationship? Building a meaningful connection with this community is important because of the long history of systemic oppression and colonial trauma that they have experienced. Because of this history, many folks who are part of this community already feel excluded, which can affect their experiences in society and in the workplace. Fostering belonging and making intentional strides to understand and uplift the Indigenous experience is a great first step that can be established with Employee Resource Groups. ERGs have been proven to foster belonging, connection and inclusivity in the workplace. Making an effort to create a safe space for Native folks to gather and build affinity is an excellent way to show your organization’s commitment to DEI. Comment below how your organization is committing to celebrating this heritage month. For additional information on prioritizing intentional inclusivity of Native employees and communities, click the link below to purchase your copy of Farzana Nayani's book, ‘The Power of Employee Resource Groups: How People Create Authentic Change.’ Be sure to follow us to stay updated on all ERG, DEI, and workplace culture-related content. https://lnkd.in/eXXsxhST #ERGPower #ThePowerOfERGs #EmployeeResourceGroups #ERGs #DEI #DiversityEquityInclusion #WorkplaceInclusion #WorkplaceCulture #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #NationalNativeAmericanHeritageDay #NationalNativeAmericanHeritageMonth

Navigating the professional landscape as a Latino who grew up in the inner-city projects of Brooklyn presents a unique set of challenges and joys, especially when working alongside colleagues from more affluent, upper-middle-class backgrounds. My commitment to remain true to my roots and not alter my identity or code-switch to fit into a more 'polished' professional image is a conscious choice that, while difficult, enriches my work experience and contributes to my personal growth. This decision to stand firm in my cultural identity amidst a tapestry of backgrounds requires resilience and a strong sense of self, paving the way for genuine connections and mutual respect in the workplace. The journey isn't without its hurdles. Bridging the gap between vastly different life experiences and viewpoints demands patience, understanding, and a willingness to engage in open and sometimes challenging conversations. These moments, though, are ripe with opportunity - to educate, to learn, and to foster a more inclusive environment. By sharing my story and perspective, I aim to break down stereotypes and encourage a deeper appreciation for the diverse backgrounds that each of us brings to the table. The rewards of this authenticity are deeply fulfilling. There's an undeniable empowerment that comes from embracing one's heritage and experiences, especially in a setting where it's not the norm. This authenticity not only fosters a sense of pride and self-worth but also inspires others to acknowledge and celebrate their own unique backgrounds. The richness of ideas and creativity that flows from a team comprised of diverse life stories is unparalleled, driving innovation and strengthening our collective work. Ultimately, while the path I've chosen comes with its set of challenges, the ability to be a bridge between worlds and contribute to a more inclusive and dynamic workplace is a source of immense joy and satisfaction.
