𝐄𝐍𝐕𝐈𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐋 & 𝐒𝐎𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐒 What is an Environmental & Social Initiative? I believe it's anything that positively contributes to the improvement of the environment and social well-being of our communities, whether it is an individual effort or company-driven. I'd love to hear how others define this based on their experiences. It could inspire many looking to start their own initiatives but unsure of where to begin. With the guidance of V Cycle's Eric Swinton, our Environmental and Social Initiative began on November 23, 2022. Our program includes: • Setting up an office collection corner for recyclable waste • Delivering recyclable waste to local Green@community for Green$points • Using these points to redeem daily necessities like rice and cooking oil. • Donating these necessities to underprivileged communities, both directly and indirectly. To date, as of September 12, 2024, our program has recycled over 1403kg of recyclable waste, and we've donated 32 bags of rice to elders in neighboring communities in Shum Shui Po and to local organizations like 北河同行. It's been rewarding to divert waste from landfills and oceans to provide for those in need. I am hopeful we will have less and less materials to recycle, by then, we will find other ways to contribute. #Vcycle #EricSwinton #GreenCommunity #RecyclableWaste #北河同行

ICYMI - something extraordinary is happening in Louisville! The Revinylize Recycling Collaborative recently assembled a one-of-a-kind partnership bringing sustainability and innovation to life. We kicked things off by re-siding a local non-profit’s home with new, durable vinyl siding. And here’s the twist: the old siding did not head to the landfill. It was collected and recycled locally! This is more than a project; it’s a movement for a greener, stronger community. Read more about the project and learn how you can be part of the Revinylize effort in your community! https://hubs.ly/Q02_V_2s0

🌍 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 For 𝟭𝟮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀, a neighborhood in Yaounde, endured an unregulated dump site. This dump site served over 𝟰𝟬𝟬 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀, however they suffered blocked roads, polluted air, and mounting health risks. I couldn’t stand by any longer. So, I initiated a 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 - 𝗘𝗖𝗔 (Ecocycle Alliance) with six compartments for waste sorting (PET bottles | plastic items | glass | metals | clothes and shoes | plastic and market bags ). The response was inspiring: ✅ Parents began segregating waste at home, before sending them to the center. ✅ Children enthusiastically used the system. ✅ Volunteers showed up to maintain the center and educate the residents. For two months, the dump site was under control, and the community felt hope for the first time in years. 💔 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝘁 𝗨𝗻𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗱 In just one week of my absence, chaos returned. Waste piled up, and old habits resurfaced. Why? • Many believed it was the council’s responsibility. • Others dismissed segregation as too “dirty.” • There was no 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 to sustain the initiative. 💡 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 1️⃣ True transformation requires 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽. 2️⃣ 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 is essential—without it, even the best efforts fail. 3️⃣ Sustainable systems must empower communities to lead. 🚀 𝗔 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Every community is like the human body—each part must play its role. Whether as the “eyes 👀,” “hands ✋🏾,” or “legs 🦵🏾,” we all contribute to progress. It’s time to rise and build together. Your community, your city, and your planet needs 𝗬𝗢𝗨. 💬 What’s one way we can inspire collective responsibility? Let’s discuss! #Sustainability #CommunityLeadership #EnvironmentalStewardship

Litter costs the government £1 billion+ a year. 💸 So why are most bins a bit rubbish? 🤷 I never paid much attention to bins before I worked at Hubbub. Well, believe me when I say I've made up for lost time 😉. A lot of what you might assume is wrong. For example: • More bins does not equal less litter • Tough anti–litter messages can increase littering • "Mixed recycling" bins might not be a great way to collect mixed recycling We've worked out an approach to designing bins that leans heavily on data-driven insights, and chucks in a huge dollop of playful creativity (a bit like the rest of our work, then). They put a smile on your face but, more importantly, they work better than the alternatives. Never seen a disco bin? A giant voting bin? 🗳️ Swipe below to check out five of our favourite Hubbub-designed bins. ⬇️ (Also: did you get the Sir Mix-a-Lot joke in the image below? I'm such a useless judge of which musical references are going to fly...) ++ P.S. I'm CEO of environmental charity Hubbub. We create campaigns with business, government and civil society that inspire environmental action. The success of this Material Recycling Facility in Cootamundra is such a great illustration of how NSW has supercharged its recycling capacity. Elouera Association received grant money under the NSW Government Product Improvement Program, which has seen tremendous results over the last five years. This program has enabled NSW to recycle close to 140 thousand tonnes MORE material per year than it could previously. This is critical as we know landfill in Greater Sydney is set to run out by 2030 if we don’t take action. This business, which employs and supports individuals with disabilities, used its grant money to achieve major improvements in its efficiency, reducing the amount it sends to landfill from 30% down to less than 10%. Follow our page as we shine a light on more great stories like this one as we #ProtectTomorrowTogether.

Today is World Environment Day, a global platform for inspiring positive change. Beginning in 1973, this United Nations (UN) international day celebrates environmental action and the power of governments, businesses and individuals to create a more sustainable world. At Culligan, part of our purpose is to help protect the planet. In late 2022 we partnered with global charity One Tree Planted, gifting all our employees 10 trees to plant in a reforestation project of their choosing. To date, over 100,000 trees have been planted, helping to offset 1,000,000kg (2,204,622 pounds) of CO2 emissions each year*.
