This week, ST Engineering US HQ took part in the SelectUSA Investment Summit, a high-profile event aimed at fostering business investment in the United States. The summit brings together thousands of investors, companies, economic development organizations (EDOs), and industry experts to facilitate deals and investments. Timothy J McBride, President of ST Engineering US HQ, joined the "Singapore-US Strategic Growth" panel discussion. The panel featured participants such as Siddharth Priyesh, VP/Head of Americas and Caribbean at Crimson Logic; Juliet Teo, Head of Portfolio Development Group at Temasek; Ng Kay Tat, Deputy GM at Venture; and was moderated by Michael Ang, Regional Director of Enterprise Singapore. The discussion highlighted the importance of Smart Cities and Urban Mobility, with ST Engineering making significant contributions through its business unit, TransCore. TransCore is actively involved in tackling the growing challenges faced by U.S. cities, providing state governments with essential infrastructure and traffic management solutions while prioritizing sustainability. In addition to the panel, Tim McBride met with North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper and Johnny Teo, Enterprise Singapore Assistant Managing Director for the Americas & Europe. During his meeting with Governor Cooper, Mr. McBride emphasized the innovative and sustainable approaches of LeeBoy and Hackney manufacturing operations in North Carolina, particularly highlighting LeeBoy's electric-variant E-paver and E-broom products. The defense market was another key topic of discussion. ST Engineering continues to explore opportunities in the U.S. defense sector, leveraging the strategic partnership between Singapore and the U.S. in the Indo-Pacific region to advance shared security goals and defense collaborations. Recognizing the importance of supply chain localization, ST Engineering is developing strategies for part sourcing, technology integration, and product assembly using U.S. companies when advantageous. This approach aims to strengthen their position in the U.S. defense market by aligning with local capabilities and resources. ST Engineering expressed gratitude for the support of Enterprise Singapore and the US Embassy in Singapore, noting that their collaboration was instrumental in making the event productive and successful. #STEngineering #SelectUSA #SmartCities #UrbanMobility #Defense #InvestmentSummit #Sustainability #GlobalPartnerships

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has been pouring into our region. Common to the announcements by Protocase, Polyhose, SANY and Kesseböhmer are compliments about the responsiveness of their partners in New Hanover County, Pender County and the City of Wilmington – specifically, the business savvy of our local elected officials. Our success with FDI, including a significant expansion in 2022 by GE-Hitachi (now Vernova), is likely to continue as global companies are drawn to our geography, workforce, infrastructure and leadership. Our project pipeline remains robust even as many businesses delay big moves amid election year uncertainty and a national economy still showing scars from the pandemic. With that said, our announcements in recent years and current activity bode well for Greater Wilmington -- and WBD! Here we grow again...

Author, Speaker, former Regional Chief Legal Officer & Company Secretary with international trade (anti-dumping), cross-border dispute resolution & transactional experience in IT, manufacturing and mining industries
"About an hour’s drive out of Munich in a town called Bad Tolz is a production facility that produces equipment such as valves for aircraft. It might be miles from home, but the facility is owned by Singapore Aerospace Manufacturing, a subsidiary of Singapore precision engineering and technology group Accuron Technologies. It has 250 staff and serves customers like Boeing and Airbus. Accuron’s group chief executive Tan Kai Hoe said the acquisition was a way for the company to diversify its service and product offerings, while allowing further investments in Europe. Accuron also has facilities in France, Austria, Britain and Northern Ireland. 'If you want to grow, you do have to go overseas, there’s no two ways about it because the market in Singapore is just not able to sustain an international engineering manufacturing group,' he said. 'So you select where to go, based on where customers are, the kinds of skilled workers and technology that you need.' ... Some Singapore companies have used acquisitions in Germany as their entry point into the continent. For Accuron’s Mr Tan, Germany’s strategic location in the middle of Europe makes it a good place to start the company’s expansion into Europe." "Indeed, more Singapore companies are setting their sights farther than the immediate region of South-east Asia and China, with a growing interest in expanding into Europe, according to Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG). In 2023, the agency supported 220 companies in exploring Europe, including markets in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Sweden and Britain. This was 20 per cent higher than in 2022 and nearly 50 per cent more than in pre-pandemic 2019. ... EnterpriseSG director for Europe Alan Yeo ... noted that Europe has some of the world’s largest economies and offers opportunities in technology and innovation. Singapore companies can leverage the region’s tech expertise and partner companies to acquire technologies. Sectors that hold promise include advanced manufacturing, healthcare, digitalisation and biomedicine, he added. Singapore companies can play in Europe’s green economy space, as Europe’s governments and companies are keen on the green transition, he said. The green economy includes the offshore wind sector, e-mobility, smart cities and agri-food tech. ... For instance, local firm Apeiron collects used cooking oil in the region and sells it to European firms to make biofuel, hence playing a role in the sustainability chains of European companies." Sue-Ann Tan, Singapore firms using Germany as gateway to expand into Europe—More local companies setting their sights farther than South-east Asia and China, 19ᵗʰ July 2024 print edition of 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴, page A23, https://lnkd.in/gdM8gu_Q
