72 hours. 259 applicants. 51 sourced candidates. We posted a VP of Marketing role for a PE-backed SaaS company and those are the top-of-funnel metrics. Per very specific client requirements (industry and growth exposure), we advanced 3 applicants—1.15%. Of the 51 passive candidates that the team sourced, we advanced 5. In most scenarios, there is 1 hire. Here, that represents .32% of the funnel. That means we have a potential 309 responsive and talented marketing leaders who are looking for their next opportunity. Part of our jobs as recruiters is identifying the .32% but a bigger part, and one that is often overlooked, is continuing to represent the other 99.68%. Earlier this year I made a post offering to connect my founder and sales leader network with people looking for new jobs. I did this following numerous conversations with founders struggling to hire great people and a couple of successful introductions I’d made that I personally knew. The post received hundreds of comments from people looking for their next job. It proved to be a really valuable resource for hiring managers, in and outside of my network who found great, available talent for free. Here's a common scenario I hear from commercial professionals: "I always hire from my network!" That's great, but what happens when your ideal candidate is: Deeply Engaged: Imagine they're leading an major product launch and loving their current role. Their focus is elsewhere, making them unlikely to actively search job boards or respond to recruiter messages. Off the Market: This month alone, I've been working with a few commercial leaders who haven't hit the open market in the last 10 + years. They weren't actively looking, but their skills and experience were exactly what my clients needed. This is where I come in: 1. Access to under the radar talent: I build relationships with top talent Senior to C-Suite across the US. These high-calibre professionals aren't actively searching but might be receptive to the right opportunity. 2. Proactive Approach: My focus isn't just responding to resumes. Personalization is key when reaching out to candidates, but here’s the thing. Personalization alone isn’t enough. You need to offer something they want. If your message doesn’t align with their needs, no amount of customization will make a difference. Ask yourself: 🧐 Is this opportunity something they’ll find exciting? 🤔 Will it help them grow in their career? If the answer is no, even the best-personalized email won’t land.
