Negotiating Renders with AI While AI can generate good images, how well can it understand subtle parametric changes and render them? Rendering with AI is nothing new; I have done this for quite some time using ControlNet and IPAdapters to save time that would otherwise be required for rendering. This particular facade seems to be the trickiest one so far for AI to understand and render. The facade was scripted in Grasshopper 3D and consists of triangulated pieces, whose top edge moves up and down in a twist, revealing the windows at the top faces of the triangulation. I tried many methods in ComfyUI and tested different tools (Magnific, Mnml, and LookX) but was not satisfied with any of the results. I tested all ControlNets (canny, depth, and sketch) possible, but what finally worked was negotiating with AI. This means I had to reduce the IPAdapter strength, mask a few parts of the images, and accept an in-between render solution that did not render the surrounding landscape precisely but kept the building the same as the original image. There might be other solutions available that I might have missed, and I would love to know them if anyone has encountered a similar problem. I can send the image as well if you want to test it out on this image. #ai #tower #parametric #rhino3d #grasshopper3d #styletransfer #rendering #timesaving #data #spaces #community #design #comfyui #architecture #abstract #imagen #conceptart #vfx #cgi #fresh #aiarchitecture #aiartcommunity #layers #image #consistency #composition #generativeai

Recently, I have seen many posts policing on the best ways to use generative AI. Seriously, AI is trained for us so that we do not have to train ourselves again. So just use it the way you see fit: use it for rendering, use it for creating concepts, use it for designing wacky, crazy-looking buildings. Don’t fall for what someone says about how we should use AI tools. I have said it before, but I think it is important for me to say and remember as well. We already have enough rigidity in our work as architects, so please use AI in the way that feels right to you. Coming to the design of the tower, the base box was twisted to the mid-height of the design. Each face was then converted into panels, and using attractor points, circular extrusions were added onto the panels in a diagrid pattern. Excess circles were culled by finding how close they are to the edge of the tower and if they intersect with the edges of the tower. Diseñador arquitectónico especializado en investigación y desarrollo de proyectos. Creativo, innovador y apasionado por el proceso de diseño funcional y estético.
Absolutely, leveraging generative AI in architecture offers incredible flexibility and creative freedom. Your point about the rigidity we often face in our work is spot on—AI tools can indeed help us break out of those constraints. The way you utilized attractor points and circular extrusions in your tower design demonstrates the innovative possibilities AI brings to the table. However, it's crucial to remember that while AI can accelerate visualization and streamline certain processes, it is not the final authority on a project. The ultimate design decisions should still be guided by human insight, intuition, and expertise. AI is a powerful tool, but it should complement our work, not dictate it.

A curious and magnificent tool to explore, observe and see at work. A concept of AI in architecture is both daunting and thrilling, and as such is our moral duty to find the best way possible forward with new possibilities and future tendencies in architecture.

🟧 Cliff Dreams in Orange Concrete, at 45FPS This work encapsulates my continued exploration of real-time interaction between segmentation and depth layers using Processing and ComfyUI—an incredible experience. Through a bespoke Processing tool, I modify geometry, semantic meaning, and depth, observing the results on different models trained in Stable Diffusion, thanks to ComfyUI, including bespoke Loras. The workflow feels natural and fluid, unlike existing generic platforms (Krea, LookX), where processes are opaque to the designer and feel too rigid to fine-tune. This approach seeks delicate expressivity, strongly connected to what I understand are relevant methodologies rooted in architectural fundamentals, far from commercial and banal designs. I believe there’s a tremendous opportunity to redefine architectural conceptual drawings by embracing simplicity and clarity, without succumbing to strong trends and forces for social media-algorithmic approval. Maintaining rules, constraints, composition, proportion, and elegance, but now at a breathtakingly fast pace with real-time feedback. And most importantly, keeping a strong human input, without which the process wouldn’t be successful. The experience continually astonishes me, and I can’t wait to share more about it in future posts. Music generated with AI x human editing.
