Is AI coming for us all? It’s simultaneously thrilling and sobering to see what can now be achieved by machines responding to human prompts, with OpenAI’s Sora producing some extraordinary high-quality video of movie scenes that are an indication of what’s to come. The art of filmmaking and storytelling is special because it is made by humans, with our originality, brilliance, imagination and indeed sometimes idiocy on display in equal measure. But we can all see ahead where bottom lines may sacrifice our artistry if we as an industry let it. At Wingspan we’ve been exploring the possibilities and applications of AI for years (and it’s definitely not all doom and gloom!). Back in 2016 we were pioneers in exploring the possibilities of computers as creatives in the Sky Arts series "Computer Says Show" which chronicled our experiment to write and stage the world’s first computer musical - "Beyond The Fence". In 2018, we followed the story of Babylon Health in "Diagnosis on Demand", exploring the opportunities of AI in healthcare with an inside look at the controversial HealthTech unicorn Babylon.   And in "The Joy of AI", Professor Jim Al-Khalli embarks on a roller-coaster ride through the entire field, charting the emergence of machine learning and asking the big questions about where AI is heading.
