Last Friday, I experienced my first American baseball game. I won 4 tickets to take my family from Wegmans Food Markets (many thanks to Wegmans, an amazing people first company!). As a geek, it was most definitely a culture shock not only seeing a sports game for the first time in over 20 years but also taking a peek at American culture. It was a lot of fun and my family definitely wants to go back. Go Buffalo Bisons and great job beating Syracuse Mets Baseball Club! There were a lot of people in attendance and I started to wonder why. Especially because I come from the Ville de Montréal area where the Montreal EXPOs were sold due to lack of attendance. My exposure to baseball was that nobody goes to games but it's a popular sport. I could never wrap my mind around that one. But then, taking a step back, I realized that the offering from Sahlen’s Stadium was more than just a baseball game. They understood that their value proposition is family entertainment. So why was it so full? Well here's what I got with my tickets (ok they were free but they are affordable anytime...) - An amazing open air stadium with clean amenities and easy to access food and drinks - Great seats no matter where you are - Entertainment throughout the game filled with games for kids, good music and fun activities - Lots of contests to win shirts, ice cream, tickets, etc - Each ticket gives a free 15$ voucher to the Buffalo Casino (so i can now bet 60$ for free) - Amazing fireworks (some of the best I have seen recently) In short, they understood that what families want is a great time, not just a fun baseball game. Their value proposition is family fun for the entire event duration. Makes me think of my own value proposition and the value proposition of the solutions I build. In the next few days, I will be writing a post on my WHY and its evolution and appreciate what I bring but also, how much I appreciate working EXFO and how I work with fantastic people who understand that Solutions are built and offered based on the value they bring and not the features and widgets and options.
