Biscuits, a cup of tea, and an interactive task on 'understanding health systems' made for a fun morning at the Active Devon team day. Learning is one of my core values, and listening to Gareth Dix is always a pleasure. It's a complex picture, but I have come away with a fire in my belly to develop our work further. #ActiveDevon #HealthSystems #Learning #ProfessionalDevelopment
Great to lead a creative interactive morning session for Active Devon on ‘understanding health systems’ and the role of physical activity in prevention and treatment. Lots of discussion around complexity, connectivity and collaboration. Also much thinking sharpened by the recent Darzi report. Still find it fascinating that Lord Darzi rightly highlights Mental Health, Cancer treatment and Cardiovascular intervention as areas of focus and need, and the unequivocal evidence of physical activity as both a factor in prevention and supporting the management of these conditions. Further great conversations and learning from those with experience in the afternoon with our GP board member Kay Brennan, and CEO of a Torridge CVS Rebecca Sharples and Mental Health Alliance lead for Northern Devon Phil Harris, all helping bring to life the reality that our health, well being and care is a multi-partner system collective with community (place) at the heart.

🌟 End of Year Wisdom for Legal Professionals: Lessons from a Supporting Psychotherapist In an insightful Platforum9 session this week, Antoinette Moriarty (Psychotherapist at the Law Society of Ireland) shared a refreshing perspective on year-end pressures: "Lawyers are like athletes who wouldn't take care of their bodies—it would be unheard of." Yet we often ignore our mental well-being, especially during the demanding year-end period. Key insight: "There are seasons of the mind." Instead of fighting winter's natural inclination toward reflection, we should embrace it. November exists for a reason - it's an opportunity to retrench. 💡 Her advice for managing year-end pressure? Rethink traditional celebrations. Maybe replace that noisy drinks reception with an energizing walk and coffee? Those small gestures of humanity often go further than grand gestures. Worth reflecting on as we head into the busiest season of the legal calendar. Read the full summary here: https://lnkd.in/d-wSzP-5 #LegalWellbeing #LawyerLife #MentalHealth #LegalProfession

As the new year approaches, many of us reflect on our lives and set goals for the year ahead. These New Year’s resolutions often revolve around self-improvement: exercising more, eating healthier, learning new skills, or saving money. While these are valuable goals, one resolution stands out as profoundly life-changing: prioritizing therapy. Therapy is not just for those going through crises; it is a powerful tool for self-discovery, growth, and maintaining emotional wellbeing. Here’s why making therapy your number one New Year’s resolution could be the most transformative choice you make this year - and how it can complement your other resolutions.

✨ NP Week Spotlight: Honoring PMHNPs of Color ✨ Today, we're thrilled to highlight Valerie Revolus, a dedicated Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who brings compassion, expertise, and cultural insight to their practice. 1. What inspired you to become a PMHNP? "Seeing patients that looked like me when I was working as a bedside nurse that didn’t have anybody to advocate for them. I knew representation mattered and I needed to advance my degree to put myself in the right position." 2. What unique perspective do you bring to your practice? "What is unique to my perspective is 2 things. Being a first generation Haitian American I’m able to speak to the cultural traumas and nuances of a group of people where mental health is highly stigmatized. Second my own personal mental health journey and experiences in my life has allowed me to craft a space for others that was hard for me to find." 3. What’s one piece of advice you’d give aspiring PMHNPs? "One piece of advice that I would give to a future PMHNP is to take your time and explore. God has given you a purpose and you’ll find the specialty area in which it best serves others." As we celebrate NP Week, let’s recognize the profound impact that PMHNPs of Color have on the field of mental health. Our commitment and advocacy bring us closer to achieving inclusive, equitable care for all communities. 🌍💙
