Happy Surgical Technologist Week 2023. I would like to start out by saying that I am so proud of the recent graduating class of CSTs from #saintpaulcollege It was an honor to teach you about Surgical Technology and surgical conscience, always speak up for the patient. I found this picture, it is many years old. This job will allow you to see things people never get to see, help people at the worst and best moments of their lives, people who will never know your name. At a certain point you may ask yourself "What am I doing with my life", this can happen with any job. (and if you don't, well that's amazing) No one seems to want to talk about the reality of healthcare. Sooner or later the day will come where a pizza party will offend you, the hours become to long, the call shifts to many, missed birthdays, kids sporting events, holidays, trips with friends and family...this will wear on you. You may find yourself on the way to work wanting to turn back around and go home, maybe you want to call in...or maybe you sit in your car before your shift dreading the thought of clocking in to be surrounded by toxic coworkers. You are the only one who has to live your life. Know your worth and do what's best for you. You do not need to sacrifice your health and well being for the system. You can not take care of patients at the level they need if you can not take care of yourself.
