Controlling hazards associated with disk grinders involves several key safety measures: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Eye and Face Protection: Wear safety goggles and a face shield to protect against flying debris. Hearing Protection: Use earplugs or earmuffs to protect against noise. Gloves: Wear heavy-duty gloves to protect your hands. Clothing: Avoid loose clothing and tie back long hair to prevent entanglement. Equipment Inspection and Maintenance: Check the Grinder: Inspect the grinder for any damage, such as cracks or loose parts, before each use. Wheel Condition: Ensure the grinding wheel is in good condition and properly rated for the grinder's speed. Guard Installation: Make sure the guard is in place and properly adjusted to deflect debris away from the operator. Safe Operation Practices: Two-Handed Operation: Always use both hands to operate the grinder for better control. Correct Wheel Use: Use the appropriate wheel for the task (e.g., cutting, grinding, polishing) and ensure it is securely attached. Proper Positioning: Stand to the side of the grinder, not directly in line with the wheel, to avoid injury from potential wheel breakage. Controlled Pressure: Apply consistent, moderate pressure to avoid overloading the grinder. Work Area Safety: Clear Workspace: Keep the work area free of flammable materials and debris. Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation to avoid inhaling dust and fumes. Fire Safety: Have a fire extinguisher nearby and be aware of the location of emergency exits. Training and Awareness:

Control Measures Demands: reasonable demands, sufficient resources. Control: given as much control as possible. Support : information, instruction, training, additional support. Relationships: clear anti-harassment and bullying policies. Role: clear job descriptions, responsibilities and authority. Change: planning and preparation for change, communication, timescales.
