The train graveyard on the outskirts of Thessaloniki, Greece, is a fascinating sight. Located in the suburb of Nea Ionia, this site is home to hundreds of railroad cars that have been standing abandoned on their railway sidings for decades. The Hellenic Railways Organisation (ΟΣΕ), Greece’s national rail company, has been trying to sell these decommissioned trains as scrap metal, but they remain in the graveyard, slowly rusting away. The site has a unique history, with the trains being left there since the 1980s. Over the years, the trains have been vandalized and have become a haven for scrap smugglers. Despite efforts to sell the trains, they remain in the graveyard, slowly being consumed by nature.
