You need a designer. Whatever you're building in tech, a designer is necessary. That's the truth. From the very beginning, hire a designer. And senior designer Eloisa Breban Docton says design is not only about creating beautiful products, but studies actually show that aesthetically-pleasing products evoke positive emotions, suggest higher quality, enhance user engagement, contribute to a positive brand image, and influence consumer purchasing decisions. On the #EchobindBlog, Eloisa dives deeper into which designer to hire and who you might need for what you're building. 📝: https://lnkd.in/gYbhxQfD

What’s wrong with the hiring peeps? 😳 Everyone is making their own definitions for roles. Some say Designer must know development Some say Developers must know design They are looking for allrounders. Everyone is asking for 1 resource with multiple roles but at the cost of 1. And then they say we can’t find the right resource 😂😂 Are you even ok? Did you notice such posts recently? Whats your opinion about that ? #TK #tkdesigns #designworld #designcommunity #designerlife #hiring #recruitment #questionoftheday

After speaking to a lot of former students, and industry professionals who are both designers and non-designers I think there is a huge opportunity for design professionals to sensitize these new-age tech companies that are looking to hire designers. When a tech company, which is accustomed to hiring engineers and managers, approaches a designer or a design team, they frequently overlook the fact that designers are trained differently and, as such, are expected to bring about the exact change—however subtle—that the company, its vision, and the platform it is building require. Design goes way beyond simple ratios, numbers, and proportions, as designers are taught to break ratios. Designers in the industry need to start looking at conducting workshops for industry professionals to prepare them for design intakes in their industry. #design #designcommunity

(Most) Designers can't showcase their work period In the recent years I've seen over 500 portfolios for different design seniority roles from people from different locations. Most of the portfolios I've seen were just bad: - Nobody cares about your double diamond if you can't explain why you used it and what was the outcome. - Many don't show actual designs, it's difficult to talk design when all I am seeing is a miniature of a desktop screen one designed, over a screenshare. - No one wants to read a wall of text or hear you reading it. - Many talk about all activities around the project and can't clearly tell what their contributions to the projects were. Recruiting for a design role - especially when you're regular or early senior you will most often find yourself being evaluated by a person who goes over dozens of portfolios and cv`s daily. Believe me - it's not difficult to stand out. Interested to learn more about portfolios and how you can improve? #portfolio #productdesign #uidesign #uxdesign #designismypassion #product #work

A couple of things I always look for when hiring designers - → Your strengths. It’s nice to see all the different things you’ve tried or can do but it’s great to know there’s one thing you can really knock out of the park. → Communication and teamwork. One involves communicating your thoughts and ideas while the other involves the ability to receive others thoughts and feedback. All the other skills can be acquired imo, but these two are something you need to walk in the door with.

When I first started hiring a contractor team for my business, I got a lot of "Wait..you're hiring designers? Aren't you a designer? Don't you want to hire someone so you can grow a different part of your business?" My answer was always the same, "I do want to offer different services, eventually. Emphasis on the 'eventually.'" Because here's the thing: if you hire that person for a completely different service other than the ones you currently offer, you're still on the hook to...get business to actually put that person to work. That's why it's always been important to hire people for the work I knew we had first...and then figure out the other services I wanted to grow into, put it out there that we had the service, and THEN hire for that role." Just my two cents, but I've found that the "build it and they will come" mentality only goes so far. When it comes to intro-ing new service lines, my motto is, "Put it out there, and then build it." Other people who have hired for your business, what are your thoughts? #BuildingAnAgency #GraphicDesign #DigitalBranding #BusinessOwnership
