Did you know that dressage, often seen as ballet on horseback, is shrouded in myths that can skew our perception of this elegant sport? Let's debunk some of these together! Myth #1: "Dressage is only for the elite." Truth be told, dressage is for anyone with a passion for riding. It's not about your background; it's about the bond between horse and rider, and the dedication to becoming a more versatile and fit pair of athletes. Myth #2: "You need an expensive horse to compete." While top-level competitions feature some high end equines, at its heart, dressage is about training and communication. Any horse, regardless of breed or price tag, can improve it's physical and mental capabilities through traditional dressage training. Myth #3: "Dressage is boring." On the contrary, it's a dynamic sport requiring precision, strength, and grace. Each movement is a conversation between rider and horse, one that can be as thrilling to execute as it is to watch. Myth #4: "It's too difficult to learn." Dressage principles can improve any rider's skills and are applicable at all levels. It's a progressive training system, meaning you start at a level that's comfortable and build from there. Myth #5: "Dressage is harmful to the horse." Actually, if done correctly, dressage training promotes physical and mental well-being, enhancing a horse's natural movement and building a harmonious partnership. Several Formula One Racecar Drivers practice pilates as a way to keep their minds and bodies healthy! “Core, mobility and flexibility are other key training considerations. Mobility is more about the joints, while flexibility is the soft tissue, and pilates is an exercise option to address all three. It’s a mind-body exercise that essentially is strength training, even if it doesn’t appear so. When Jacobs retired from professional rugby, he got involved in motorsports through his wife’s pilates studio. It’s how he met several drivers. Sargeant does pilates as well, though mainly in the offseason.” Visit the link in my bio to read more from this fascinating article!
