[Just learn how to get stuff done] This video interview of former President Barack Obama is a poignant reminder to many of us who are trying to climb to corporate ladder. When I started out in my career, admittedly I always pushed the boundary to be noticed and sought for the "plum assignment" or the fancy PIC role in the team. Just to get noticed. I figured, that is the only way for me to progress in my career. It took me a long time to finally realise that it wasn't the way to be noticed. It was in my last role when I was managing business development strategy & quality for a major market where my manager asked me point blank in my face - "So Parv you've described the problem, what is your suggested solution?" I was caught off guard and was expecting a solution from my Manager. He didn't refuse help but he wanted to know if I took a stab at it and have a suggested approach. It was the biggest lesson I learned in my career - don't just describe the problems but take the opportunity to solve them. The other realisation I had was to be the guy who can get things done and get it done right. When I joined SGTech last year, I realised these were the same undercurrent principles - solving problems and getting things done. Leading the portfolio in my current scope of work, I hold these principles very near and dear and make it a point that the sentiment is known and expected from the team. How about getting noticed? It doesn't actually matter anymore because I know and trust so long as I continue being the person who gets things done, attempts to solve problems, and continue being inquisitive, people will notice! #CareerGrowth #GettingThingsDone #ProblemSolving #Execution
