I speak with clients expanding to the USA weekly. US Fact - if you are starting with one, two, or three employees in the US it is very difficult to procure the benefits that are vital to attracting and retaining talent. US Fact - setting up state registrations is time consuming; setting up payroll is time consuming; finding benefits is difficult for very small employers. As a senior HR or Finance professional, you likely source, compare, and then hire various vendors and contractors. You then evaluate the impact and results that you get back in return for what you pay them. Makes sense right? It's natural to have a high standard when it comes to getting real value for the time and money invested. As a senior representative of your company, if the investment is not justified, you would look for something better. Why? Because the standards and interests of the company demand that you do. Perhaps it's time to consider this question as it relates to your partnership with your benefits consultant. One of the key questions we ask when we are introduced to a new organization, is how you measure the success of your benefit plan - and more specifically how to evaluate the ROI related to what you pay your benefits consultant. This seems like a very simple and appropriate way to look at business relationships, however, we do find that sometimes a relationship is only measured by “likeability” and not necessarily real impact or business value. We would encourage you to think about your investments and efforts put towards your benefits and wellness programs – and really dig deep to see if it might be time to re-evaluate and look for an increase to the ROI.
