They’re the oldest glass manufacturer in the U.S. based right here in Pittsburgh 🤯 When I walked in the door a nice lady greeted me and I learned she has been with the company for over 40 years. You’d recognize some of the most popular bourbon bottles they make sitting on your shelf at home. Once you step inside, you would never know this was the oldest glass manufacturer in the US. There were fresh renovations and updates throughout the facility. There are plans for continued investment that will support the next generation of Pittsburgh talent. This is what I saw on my recent tour of Stoelzle Glass as we were in the process of helping them hire some of Pittsburgh's top talent. I've always believed in understanding a company's culture beyond the job description. Stepping into Stoelzle's facility helped bring the job descriptions to life. Right away I felt the heat, the noise, the power, and the passion people had for being here. The sheer scale of the operation was INTENSE. But it was the PEOPLE who truly captivated me. - 40-year veteran greeting guests at the front door (That's LOYALTY right there). - People working hard but also enjoying the work they do. - Engineers and craftspeople working side-by-side. A site visit is not just a tour, it's an immersion. It's WITNESSING firsthand: - How employees INTERACT - How they TALK about their work - How they EMBODY the company's values It's about experiencing the energy, the passion, the daily rhythms that make a workplace UNIQUE. This is how you match exceptional talent with exceptional organizations. Thanks Stoelzle Glass Group for allowing us to be a small part of your great company! And special thanks to Ross Wachowski for giving us the tour! If you’re interested in working for a Glass company rich in history with big plans for the future, please reach out to me for details. P.S. If you are in Pittsburgh and are hiring in the next 3 months, let’s have a chat. We will meet in person at your office or facility, and use it as a jump start for the great hard working people of Pittsburgh to learn what makes you unique.

What a year for the Layout Planing team. As the year closes out I’ve reflected on what an hectic, crazy but fun year it has been for the layout planning team and I. We’ve launched numerous fresh look stores. Each one having plenty of revisions, debates (arguments sometimes 😂), reviews and consultations with a host of stakeholders across the business. New stores launched. It’s fantastic to see the development of these and the engagement needed to ensure we have the best opening. Modular & small works rolled out. Working flat out to implement smaller projects in vast numbers of stores to help the business objectives. Huge numbers of drawings proposed, re proposed, scrapped and sometimes redone at utter speed to help land. New team members joining. As colleagues move into new roles, we’ve welcomed new colleagues to our team. I’ve enjoyed seeing how they learn the role and all the new skills (some might call them frustrations 😂) they need to develop in the role. It’s surprised lots of people how many inputs we have into so many other departments in order to make everything work. Obviously there’s so much more I can write here but the main thing is to say I’m so proud of the team and what we’ve done. Clearly next year is going to be another hectic one as the business looks to progress. But we’re ready to do our part and help influence that progress. Happy new year everyone. #morrisons #layout #floorplan

In Santa Clara, CA, this week, sharing time with Steelcase's dealers. Here are some of my takeaways. -They are not selling furniture; they provide workplace solutions. -They must clarify how and where they fit in the value chain to their stakeholders. -Problems they are solving today differ from those they were solving in the past. (pre-pandemic vs post-pandemic) -Seling workplace solutions is a highly complex sale with many stakeholders influencing decision-making (brokers, designers, end customers) -Other stakeholders in the decision-making process aren't qualified to make all the decisions for workplace solutions. This is why I love my job. I'm constantly learning new industries and what others do to succeed in the markets they represent. I want to thank @Steelcase and their dealers for educating me on their challenges and how I can help them succeed in their negotiations.

The glass walls of the conference room at HyugaLife were a very purposeful design choice. This was done for 4 reasons: 1. With glass walls, everything is out in the open, quite literally. So whether we're celebrating a win, or fighting about a loss, we maintain transparency with everyone. 2. It helps keep people accountable. When everyone can peek in on meetings, they hold you accountable for any decision. 3. They showcase to our employees a culture without rigid hierarchies. Where the CXOs are as visible to the employees as the employees are to us. 4. It shows the inner workings of the organization to outsiders. Clients, partners, and even prospective hires get to see the kind of organization they are working with. So, when you look at our conference room's glass walls, remember they're not just glass. They're a symbol of a workspace built on trust, teamwork, and progress. And that's a view we're proud to show off. #transperancy #workspace #teamwork #progress #accountabilitymatters #employeeempowerment #trustbuilding #startupculture #founderlife

From Men in Black's chic yet impractical Ovalia Egg Chair to Silicon Valley's logo overload, and The Wolf of Wall Street's "unconventional" mentoring methods, we are tapping into insights that, though seemingly new, have long existed in pop culture. Learn how TV and movies have shaped our understanding of workplace design, and discover how HGA is transforming these insights into reality from our own David Little. #WorkplaceDesign #HGA

Empowering Growth and Innovation | Pioneering Operations | Nationwide Navigator | Transforming Challenges into Opportunities
🚀 Problem-Solving in Action: Ensuring Smooth Store Openings Despite Unexpected Challenges 🚀 In the fast-paced world of operations, challenges are inevitable. One particular area where we frequently encountered obstacles was during store openings. Each turnover day brought its own set of surprises, despite these hurdles, our commitment to ensuring the openings were on time from the operations end never wavered. The Challenge: Every time we showed up on turnover day, there were unexpected issues that threatened to delay the opening. We faced situations like: Awaiting permits. Unfinished electrical work. Incomplete equipment installation. Missing smallwares. Our Solution: We learned to quickly pivot and find creative solutions to these obstacles rather than succumbing to them. Here’s how we did it: 1. Adaptability and Innovation: Training in Unconventional Spaces: When training spaces were unavailable, we used hotel conference rooms and even set up makeshift bars out of counters. Technology and Engagement: We leveraged technology to play learning games and integrated fun activities into our training sessions to keep the team engaged despite the construction happening around us. 2. Collaboration and Flexibility: Shared Spaces: We shared spaces with construction crews, coordinating closely to ensure both teams could work effectively. Improvised Solutions: When equipment was missing or incomplete, we found creative ways to simulate real-world scenarios. 3. Empowerment and Motivation: Team Empowerment: We motivated and empowered our team, ensuring they knew they were capable of overcoming any challenge. Positive Reinforcement: Regular encouragement and positive reinforcement helped maintain high morale and commitment. The Outcome: Despite the numerous challenges, our ability to adapt and innovate ensured that our store openings were successful and on time. This experience reinforced the importance of resilience, creativity, and teamwork in overcoming obstacles. I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved and grateful for the hardworking teams that made it all possible. Together, we turned challenges into opportunities for growth and success. #ProblemSolving #OperationsManagement #Innovation #Teamwork #Leadership #ContinuousImprovement
