🎗 This week is Remember A Charity Week. Together with Remember A Charity, we're celebrating the generosity of the British public and the growth of Willanthropy - the act of leaving a gift to charity in your will. It's strange to see a video of myself exactly ten years ago to the day! It's officially been a decade since Simple Charity began. Check out the first minute of the video below to see sixteen-year-old Brian pitching Simple Charity for the announcements at North Forsyth High School. Exactly ten years ago today I recorded a video announcing the first ever interest meeting for Simple Charity. In that first year our team raised $60,000 for global charities, then I went to Duke, we made Simple Charity a 501(c)(3), I started full-time, we started college chapters, we did four summer internships with 30+ interns, we raised $400k+ more for charity, we thought a lot about solidarity with the poor, we vetted hundreds of charities, we learned a lot about how to vet charities, we partnered with IJM to support 35+ college chapters around the country, we launched Simple Charity Advising, we started consulting for individuals, foundations, and philanthropists, and God provided over and over and over and over again. One decade in, it truly feels like Simple Charity is just getting started. We're professionalizing and finding our niche in an ecosystem of actors that God is using to advance mercy and justice in the world, and we are refining the particular work that He is calling us to. From the beginning Simple Charity has been a community of people seeking to love our neighbors like Jesus, with actions and in truth. We've done that imperfectly, but I'm proud of the way that our community has sought excellence in our work and never stopped learning and improving. In one of my favorite sermons, John Mark Comer says that the dreams that God gives us are often different, harder, longer, and better than what we had in mind. This rings true for Simple Charity. It has been a roller-coaster ride and that means that at times I've felt like I was hanging upside down or spinning in circles. And yet God has been guiding and refining constantly, and the truth is that His love for people in poverty and injustice is greater and stronger than anything we're capable of. I've learned that I don't know what God has next for Simple Charity, but I can trust the One who goes with us no matter what happens. That said, I'm filled with hope these days at the opportunity to inspire Christians to embrace Christ's call to practice solidarity. This is an urgent message for the global church. I believe that God could use Simple Charity to inspire a generation of college students to put love into action motivated by their faith. I also believe God can use Simple Charity to help direct billions of dollars given freely away for the cause of love, mercy, and justice in Jesus's Name, revitalizing the witness of the Church in the 21st century. Of course, God might not do these things... but He can and He might. And I've learned that it's my job to just trust Him and be along for the ride. https://lnkd.in/eAFR7HDs

Tis the season to give alms! Fa La La La La La La La La… 🎶 MMM: Monday Morning Meditation 03252024 Giving of your time, talent and treasure are acts of giving alms. So is merely sharing support, encouragement; access to your network, and making a difference - without credit. 🤲🏼 We’re not talking strategic partnerships or mentoring a junior employee. Rather self-less acts of charity meant to distribute some of your blessings amongst those less fortunate. According to the codifier of Jewish law, Maimonides, there are eight levels of giving. These establish the degree to which the giver is sensitive to the needs of the recipient. Level 8: Giving grudgingly, sour with obligation. Level 7: Giving less than you can afford, but pleasantly. Level 6: Giving generously, after being asked. Level 5: Giving before you are asked. Level 4: The recipient knows the giver, but the giver does not know the recipient. Level 3: The giver knows the recipient, but the recipient does not know the giver. Level 2: Giving anonymously, neither the recipient nor giver know one another. Level 1: Helping someone become self-sufficient. With a job, or opportunity that preserves their dignity and sets them up to build their confidence and even be a source of strength to others. This Holy Week, take stock of the blessings that surround you. Sacrifice the luxury of scrolling thru your social feed for the next distraction. 📱 Let the spirit of giving alms pre-empt at least one NCAA rabbit hole. This isn’t about flaunting charitable behaviors. This isn’t about collecting likes and hearts in the comments. This is about exhibiting compassion and taking action on behalf of another less fortunate. Continue the effort. 💪🏽 Start the effort. 🙏 Get in the race… #givealms #charity #generosity #community #payitforward #easter #passover #leadership #success | PALIO, Inc. 🚩

Greek Philosopher Heraclitus lived from 535-475BC. He believed in the constant state of change. Heraclitus’s most well known expression “no man steps in the same river twice”. That quote will be a post at some point. He also discussed the need for opposites to exist something similar to a yin and yang like theory. This quote is true and I embrace change. Even the vast mountains and everything we see will one day erode. It took me a very long time to be willing to change. It wasn’t until I realized that something new was my only option to survive. Change can be scary even when it’s a good thing. I remember when my son first started kindergarten. Clearly that is a good thing, but I was terrified. What would I do with myself? Will I be lonely? What if I relapse? Most of the thought centered around me and that is much of my problem. Instead of fighting change, I will be that inevitable change-jg Please Sign Up for Monthly Donations On Our Website https://lnkd.in/drhS6dyf Email Us. 🎥 #UnCharitable is a one-of-a-kind movie that shows how our charitable traditions and prejudices have suffocated the charitable sector and prevented it from leading the charge to truly change the world. Your #CAGP Vancouver Island Chapter is bringing this insightful and inspiring documentary to you at a truly accessible rate. When: May 1 to May 31 Cost: $5 (For a full month of access) Register here: https://lnkd.in/giw9gQf9 For the first 500 people who register, you will receive a link to watch the movie any time during the month starting May 1. View as many times as you wish 🍿 Invite your friends, family and favourite co-workers over to watch and engage in insightful conversation on the role the charitable sector has in our society (and how you can help!). There's more‼️ For the first 250 people who register you will have their name put into a draw to receive one of 5 copies of Dan Pallotta 's book UnCharitable. Based on the book, "UnCharitable," by Dan Pallotta, which became one of the most talked-about TED talks of all time --changing everything from charity watchdog standards to the giving practices of America's biggest foundations -- UnCharitable follows the stories of four iconic charitable efforts that were crippled or destroyed by old ideas. Step-by-step, and with a chorus of leading voices in the field, the movie shows how charity's real power has been misunderstood and undermined by anachronistic ideas about frugality and deprivation and takes the viewer on a journey from sach-cloth and ashes to a place where unleashed, charities can play the leading role in creating an unimaginably beautiful world that works for everyone. No topic is more crucial or timelier as we confront a world with increasingly complex problems, with the least of us left behind, and with the growing revelation that we are all interconnected and that our fate lies in our willingness to turn away from old ideas that have not worked and embraced radically new ones. #CAGP #CAGPVI #UnCharitableMovie #Philanthropy

Business Owner for Financial Advising, Financial Planning, Life/Health Insurance, and Property & Casualty.
Today is Siblings Day. The day aims to celebrate the very important but often under-appreciated special relationship and bond of love, friendship, and respect shared between siblings. Here are some ways you can celebrate this special day: * Even though it is a predominantly American holiday, nothing should stop you from celebrating it wherever you are. Do something special to celebrate your siblings - throw a party for them, cook them their favorite dish, take them out to do their favorite activity, stay at home and go through old family photos and videos, and reminisce about the good times you had growing up together. * Spend some time with your siblings. If you live away from them, call them and talk to them. What about paying them a surprise visit? * If you are unable to call or visit them, what about sending them a lovely card that tells them how much you miss them and care for them? * Tell them how much you love them and appreciate them and all they do for you. * If your siblings are no longer with you, what about doing something special in their memory? Perhaps donating to their favorite charity? *And don't forget your step- and half-siblings! So what if you only share one parent or don't have a genetic connection to them - sometimes connections of the heart are all you need to become brothers and sisters.
