Dispensary leadership, how do you keep your customers informed and engaged on social media? Back when I was marketing director at The Herbery dispensaries in Vancouver, Wash., it was a priority for us to educate our crew and customers, especially with behind the scenes looks like this one at Doc & Yeti. Believe me - I know how hard it is for dispos to market on social media. I, too, have had accounts shut down and shadow-banned. But when you focus on education for your locals, you’ll reach the folks you need to reach. I built a nice following of folks who started to recognize me behind the counter, and who would wait to be served by me. I even had a contingent of elderly customers who brought their friends in to see me so I could answer their questions and find products that work for them. Buermann's Ranch Meats, a growing meat processing business in Burns, is transforming Harney County's economy and inspiring local youth! Thanks to strategic investments and their collaboration with community programs, Buermann's has created jobs, enriched their operations, and continued their educational demonstrations for the next generation of meat industry professionals. Buermann's received a $131,715 Strategic Reserve Fund award from Business Oregon which allowed Buermann's to make critical capital improvements to their facility in Burns, Oregon, and to upgrade key equipment to their processing operation. These enhancements have enabled Buermann's to better serve rural customers, maintain consistency in producing high-quality sausage, and meet the growing demand in local and regional markets. An addition, Buermann's was awarded a $697,500 grant from the Oregon Department of Agriculture to develop a state meat inspection facility, the first of its kind in the region, enabling them to improve local meat processing and meet stringent regulatory requirements. We asked her three questions to get to know her better. Do you have any pets? Of course! I have two male Pomskies named Hunter and Kody. They are a mix between Husky and Pomeranian and look like mini huskies. Hunter is the bigger of the two and just wants to snuggle and gaze into our eyes! Kody is my little shadow. He’s a bit high-strung, so he likes to follow me around and always wants to know what is going on. They both enjoy rabbit chasing, belly rubs and listening to their howling echo throughout the house.😉 What’s one of your guilty pleasures? Chocolate chip cookie dough. My teenage daughters love it too, so we often start out "baking" cookies without ever getting to the baking part! What is the biggest opportunity you have in your new role? The animal compounding industry has been undergoing massive change from a regulatory perspective in terms of where and how products can be made (503A vs. 503B and individual patient prescriptions vs. office use). Because the FDA and State Board of Pharmacies’ expectations continue to evolve, we have an opportunity to develop and execute innovative changes that not only anticipate, but also help us benefit from those developments. What a week for the Indiana Pork Producers Association's Midwest Pork Conference!   At the conclusion of the event, Mark Hulsebus, Alltech's U.S. Pork General Manager, shared - "The pace of change in our industry, just like in our lives, is swift. As an agri-food company, we are not immune to this change. No longer can we bring new products forth and focus on feature and benefits alone if we hope to be successful. We must listen to our customers, engage in consultative sales, and help them address their most important challenges. Much of the discussion at Midwest Pork centered on this most important task of solving producers' challenges. When we do that as an organization, we are inherently achieving progress in our journey towards a Planet of Plenty." Crazy crazy week! Once again, a week with Omnia is a week of diversity, great meetings, new stuff to demo and fun! From setting up new holdings in Omnia for new clients to booking Terramap, presenting to growers at a FARMACY PLC SFI meeting with colleagues, catching up on Cereals leads and then talking new Omnia upgrades at one of our RTC trials events in South Norfolk. No single week or even day is ever the same - it is refreshingly enjoyable growing our fan base - I use the term fan base as people are wanting to be involved with what we are doing and telling their friends and colleagues. We might need to sell shirts and merch soon! On a serious note, having struggled for confidence in my previous role - I was just a sales person, a number - who wasn’t the best at it - as therefore you always felt pressured. That doesn’t happen now - finding new clients to speak to and engage with, looking after existing ones and helping colleagues is now great fun - not a worry and a burden. A lot of that is down to company culture and a desire to service our clients to the best we can. Everyone wants to do that and it’s encouraged. So now as harvest looms ever closer, the fruits of the last year’s hard work will come to light - whatever the outcome we’ll be ready to start the 2025 crop year with an awesome tool to help farmers be more efficient and concentrate on better decision making. As one said to me today, you get what you pay for and if it makes my life easier, it’s worth it. I end this post with a photo of my two children who have just finished school for the summer. Both won prizes - Agnes for art and Edison for best progress in his year. Neither knew they were getting them and they were truly excited to be awarded these. They go to show that you can love what you do (in their case school) and it can be fun… think many people forget that just being alive and healthy is worth smiling about sometimes too.
